It’s like, I’m trying to understand it and all..
But.. err..
I’m failing, lol.
Lost all the games I tried =/
Anyone got a little guide I could fall back on? o.0
Thanks for the links =)
Also, I didn’t know we could refine items =x
Gotta’ pay more attention to these things =/
But for VIII’s the key is to have the highest number where the cards meet like you said. If you have a 9 on top of a card, and you lay it under a card with 5 on the bottom, then you’ll win.
Also, it’s a good idea to protect a card that has weak numbers on a side by placing it against the wall so that it can’t be captured. It’s more of a preventative measure, especially if you have the first turn and can lay a card that the enemy can’t capture.
Just stick with it until you start getting some boss/GF cards that’ll help you win easier. I personally love VIII’s card game, especially modding the cards into items/magic. 😀
I was on a winning streak after losing a few times to the Grandma at Deling City..
That Grandma cheats I tells ya’
I was winning so much..
Then she won my Ifrit card..
So, I HAD to get it back, I took out the Minotaur cards..
Lost one of the 2 cards..
Won Ifrit..
Lost the other minotaur card..
Then, I lost ifrit.
GAR!
I am so annoyed.
She cheats!
She knows what I’m planning! lol
Just ranting.
The game is easiest at the beginning as the rules will change and you’ll spread rules wherever you go. But at first when the rules are basic you just have to make sure you set up a good defense…have Ifrit or a Wendigo on the bottom right until they expose themselves and then go for it. You can flip two of their cards over at once as well….just have to have higher numbers than they do.
They can combo with the "Same" thingies like nobody’s business =/
I checked GameFAQs and there’s one plain imbalanced card xD
Tri-Point.
8
8 5

Just use it and Ifrit I’m guessing.
But where do I find those?
Maybe I could mass 4 of those and an Ifrit and win all the time, lol
Have you gotten the magical lamp from Cid yet? (I think it’s before you heard to Deling City) if so, and if you haven’t used it, use it. You fight the optional boss and get his card!
I tried to do that without spoilers in case you haven’t done it yet. Also, I as soon as I got hold of 5 GF/high boss cards, I always used those unless I was playing an elemental game, which I still would use my best 3-4 cards and toss in an elemental….maybe.
Depending on which rules are in effect, the strategy of the game changes. Like I said, it’s easiest to spend a little time getting cards at the beginning and carding bombs from the Fire Cavern is a good idea as well. I’m super careful about which rules I spread since it can make it tons harder. But, yeah, depends on where you’re at. Could you elaborate a little more on which rules you’re playing with? When you get to a certain point, you need a lot more than just brute force.
You get an ability from Quezecotl that allows you to mod them in which you get items. Many of the items you get from modifying the bigger cards are rare and extremely helpful if you mod before fighting the final boss, like the hero for instance makes you invincible for an amount of time. I didn’t like it when I first played but now that I get it, I find it very entertaining. Now, Blitz Ball was a mini game I could never get into!

Even Quina. I adore that obese frog loving clown.
Ex. two cards battle and the numbers that pop up are 54 to 7. Clearly the 54 card has much better stats, but I’ve seen that damn 7 card win a lot more then it should have. I just sat there and wondered (out loud) why the fuck that card won?!
It just seems like a lot more luck is required in TM. As for Triple Triad, you can actually use the cards for magic/items, and there’s an actual side quest for it as well. I know IX has that tournament on Disc 3 (I believe) but I’m pretty sure you can lose in the first round and be done with it.
I did try to play it in IX and collect most of the cards, mainly because it helps you with your Treasure Hunter rating when you meet the four armed man in the city that starts with D (clearly I need to replay this game, my memory is shot).
