The Pocket Monsters series, which debuted in 1996 with Red/Green, has become a global phenomenon, emphasizing "trading" and "battling" between the different versions as central gameplay components. They should definitely start fresh. If they pile more pokemon onto the current number we’ll end up with something well over 600. I really don’t feel like keeping track of 600 pokemon, let alone capturing all of them. Also, we’ve already got far too many legendaries thanks to the abysmal fourth generation. I also don’t think I’d like to see more evolution stages for existing pokemon, which Gen 4 was chock-full of.

Gen 4 was the worst and if you like it you have the worst taste ever. Heart Gold and Soul Silver remakes should redeem it a little though, seeing as they are remakes of the best games in the series.

A silhouette of a 5th gen Pok�mon has been floating around the internet for the past week or so, and it has just been revealed in CoroCoro magazine:

Scans from the latest CoroCoro Comic out the first new Pok�mon of the fifth generation, Zoroark, the monster fox Pok�mon and star of the franchise’s 13th animated feature, Phantom Ruler Zoroark.

First shown in silhouette during tis weekend’s Pok�mon Sunday in Japan, CoroCoro Comic magazine scans from across the sea have confirmed the mysterious creature as Zoroark, a monster fox Pok�mon that begins life as the adorable Zorua, who is small, fluffy, and thoroughly evil, much like a Pekingese.

I’ll be interested to see what legendary pokemon they come up with, they’ve pretty much done everything already.

Despite the rumours of Nintendo releasing a new handheld (which they totally should), this has been confirmed for release on the DS. I don’t think we’ll see much of an improvement in graphics. The in-battle graphics are pretty limited with the size of the DS cartridge. I imagine creating 600+ 3D models with full animation would take up a whole lot of space.

It’s a shame really.

However, they’ve promised to mix the game up somehow. I’m not getting my hopes up though, seeing as they promised something similar when they announced Diamond and Peal.

This may be the one time that I pick the grass poke 🙁 It’s just the least ugly.

But really, it’s okay. The firepig will probably evolve into a badass fire boar, the grass pokemon already looks pretty cool, and even though the water pokemon is a bit of a mess, he has already grown on me in a lovable loser sort of way.

Every gen has had new pokes I loved, and every gen has been fun to play, so I’m sure this one will be no different. I’m not crazy about the Gold and Silver starters either but I’m still having a ton of fun with Soul Silver.

I am hoping for new Eevee evolutions!

Pokemon are animated in battle now. I think the fire and grass pokes look really cute. The water poke honestly looks even more pitiful but I am still totally going to pick him. ; ;

You can also see the main characters walking in a town. It looks really good, honestly, a lot better than I expected based on screens. I hope that you’ll still be able to see Pokemon walking behind you, though.

I saw all new Pok�mon on Serebii when they were up (I think they removed them for some copyright issues), and most of them are horrible. I mean…A trash bag? A junkyard? Ice cones?

But some are cool, like Wooguru and two or three more.
