Most Hated Character in FFXIII (Contains Endgame Spoilers)

Basically what the title say’s. My vote is for Snow. I hated his guts since all he would whine about is being the hero and Serah. He was also weird because he wanted to marry Serah who looked like she was 15; which ain’t right in my books.

Judging from the attitudes of people on these boards, I guess that Vanille will get the most votes.

I didn’t vote for her because I liked having her as the narrator since she is a liar to begin with; so the player is getting a doctored story; which I felt was very smart to do. I would have voted for her since she is over-sexualized. She could have been a really great character if she didn’t make a battle sound like a porno.

She’s 19, being oversexualized isn’t a super problem. Plus there is meta humor about fanservice with Snow and Sazh being gonked over it.

I’d have to say I like Light the least. She’s basically Squall 2.0 and her coming around to be more caring and warm sounds laughable since she actually has a voice actress. Thank goodness Squall never had one in the main lineage.

Yes there isn’t a big age difference but when you look at them together, it looks illegal. And that is something I can’t get over no matter how old the game tells me they are. If Serah had a different design that makes her look older then Snow wouldn’t get so much hate from me.

Not saying it can’t bother you. My gonk profile is amazingly inconsistent, to the point that people tend to call me a hypocrite on sexual matters. I completely understand how it can be distracting or weird for people. Just isn’t for me.

This kind of question requires strong feeling for the game – negative feeling, but strong nontheless. And FF13 simply wasn’t a game that people felt strongly about one way or the other.

Expectations for FF13 were at rock bottom when it came out, largely because of the rumours of no towns and linearity etc. There were so many people who were just hoping it would be awful.

The reality however is that whilst the game certainly hasn’t been the smash hit that has revived and rejuvenated the series, it hasn’t generated any real or lasting sense of hatred.

The sad fact is that FF is not deemed worthy of expending such effort over these days.

It’s name ensures that it will get healthy sales from curious ex-fans, but unless it was the Second Coming of gaming, they were unlikely to care much and abandoned it to play the 6 other chronically overhyped 8/10+ games they’d bought in the last fortnight.

The game wasn’t so great it proved its early critics wrong, nor was it so excruciatingly bad that it inspired people to hate on it.

So the answer to the question on this thread is… meh.

I don’t detest Snow, but I do dislike his constant speeches of heroism and Serah dispersed throughout the game. Overall, he can be annoying, but I can sympathize.

I actually quite liked the character, and hell wouldn’t you be whiny in his situation. He is only a kid who loses his mother on a day trip out somewhere, gets his entire perspective of what is life completely turned upside down when turned into a L’Cie. Give him a break. ALSO, he is the only character in the game who at the end does not have a loved one come back. Snow and Lightning get Serah back, Sazh gets Dajh back. Hope, screw you your mums dead and so is your Dad, but don’t worry you now have Snow to look after you. Poor Hope.
I also thought the young man who did his voice acting was also superb, a leap from Everybody Hates Chris to doing a FF game. I will always stick up for poor hope. most tragic character in this game.

I actually stand up for Hope (hmm, sounding like Lennon here..) for the reasons that you mentioned. Like Purrr, he also grew on me. And he’s also one of the only characters who can make Lightning smile until the end of the game. Which is pretty dope.

Every second word out of Snow’s mouth was literally "Serah"; I feel that we needed to know more about him. The whole Serah thing was overplayed in my opinion. The only part where I did like him was in the Fifth Ark where he was questioning his opinions. He was going dark places in his mind at that point of the game; unfortunately I wanted him to go to a really dark place in his mind. Which I never got.

Hope’s dad isn’t dead at the end of the game, at least not the way I remember it. They say just before they go to rescue Sazh and Vanille, that he’s been taken to safety. And as far as I know, that’s the last you hear of him. So that means that he’s alive and well.

And yes, I also think that Hope is alright. Not the greatest charactere ever, but he reacts in believeable ways and is very useful in balancing Snow’s unfocused optimism and Fang’s scepticism. He’s usually the one who says ‘Look, this is what the situation is, and this seems like the sensible thing to do next’.

He may have been taken to safety then, but he is never mentioned again. From a story perspective they should have had him greet his son. The logical conclusion I see is that he died in the aftermath of what was happening to Cocoon.

What evidence is there to suggest anything like that happened?! Serah and Dajh were it seems being kept around by Dysley, so it’s not such a stretch that they would be instantly on the scene at the end.

But if Hope’s dad had just decided to leave the safe house he’d been moved to in the middle of a mass invasion, somehow get down to Gran Pulse and go for a stroll on the very field the heroes end up on…

Isn’t it much more sensible to assume he’s still alive and on Coccoon? There is nothing to suggest he was killed. It doesn’t mean that Hope can’t be upset that his mother, Fang and Vanille didn’t make it back.

The ending is supposed to be postive, Coccoon becoming attached to Gran Pulse signalling a new age where the two peoples will learn to live together. And yet so many people seem to insist that everyone on Cocoon must have died.

That is obviously not what the ending is implying at all. Do you honestly think the characters would be so happy at the end, if they were the only people still alive in the world?!

I never said everyone on Cocoon died, and never met anyone who played this game who assumed that. It’s quite obvious in the FMV you can see the population of Cocoon walking down the crystal. All I’m saying is from a storytelling point of view and epilogue, Hope is the only person whos’ loved one is not there. It is also implied in the speech that he accepts that he looks around and sees Serah adn Dajh but not his dad in which he says "They are gone arn’t they?" as he begins to accept his family are not there. I can say that, because as I explained, they were likely to be in the vincity (they were captured by Dysley after all). This is where people who were in the chamber at Edenhall ended up, so why wouldn’t they be nearby? (There’s also the ‘it’s poetic license’ answer).

It’s absurd to suggest that Hope’s dad is dead, when you have no proof of any kind. Especially when as I also said, a great many people believe he is talking about Fang and Vanille.

And I agree with that, because why would he think his mother would come back? She died in a completely different and completely unrelated way. The people turned to crystal were always reckoned to be able to come back. She fell off a cliff (essentially) and there was never any suggestion she would come back.

I’m not going round and round on this. There is no proof whatsoever that Hope’s dad has even received so much as a paper cut. So unless we’re going to get into the habit in games, of assuming every character who isn’t currently on screen is dead, then I feel extremely confident in saying Hope’s dad is still alive.

Mrm, I can’t muster hate for any of the playables. Least liked, though, was Snow.

I’m one of those people who despise the game, but, that being said, I loved Sazh and Fang as well. I felt Lightning was simply another one of Square’s sulking heroes (like Squall) and, while I understand why Hope is the way he is, I still find him very irritating. Snow was very annoying to me too, but the one character I just can’t stand is Vanille; she loud, annoying, and just there for blatant fanservice (and no, I don’t care that she is the catalyst of the plot)

You should have put NPCs up to that list as well. I hate Serah the most from all of FXIII and probably even the whole series.
If she had not been in the story, it would have been so much better. Lighting and Snow would have had some more reasonable arguments for their journey than obsessively mentioning Serah in their every sentence. Even if they had not, it would have still seemed smarter than putting Serah as someone to fill up the plot holes. I mean, it is so obvious she was a last-minute decision of a [hopefully drunk, for that would explain a lot of things] story writer that she deserves all the hate.
As for the playable characters I can’t say I truly hated any of them. Characters who got the most of my loathing were Snow and Hope, but that was only in the beginning. At the start of the second chapter Snow had really started getting on my nerves with his useless [desperate] attempts to do what he could not do, but all of the characters have become a lot smarter later on. As for Hope, he really pissed me off with his "I’m-gonna-blame-Snow-for-all-what-had-happened" attitude.
Snow did not kill Nora, Snow did not start the purge, Snow did not turn him into an l’Cie, so why give all of the blame to the poor guy?

Vanille by far..so much so that i stopped playing the game while stuck useing her. i think it was the voice acting…done my head in

See, while I don’t sympathize for Hope…I do for Snow. To me I think the Fifth Ark showed his true self. It wasn’t that he was going to a dark place, is that he has always been in a dark place. His optimism was forced and was neccesary for him to continue his journey. If he didn’t have that annoying optimism, he probably would have broke down like a baby back bitch. I don’t think you should honestly expect too much more out of a muscle head.

Also…I hate the game overall for making the best fucking character obsolete.

Sazh should’ve been a god. Instead that backstabbing whore gets all the glory. Even the best summon. Bullshit.

Lightning. For the sake of everything, going from an androgyneous/gay male to an androgyneous/lesbian female as main character is barely a cool feature.

Lol, I find it funny that a lot of people hates Vanille. I suppose her accent in English version is garbage since she has quite an annoying Australian accent. I play the internation version and I’m lovin’ her voice <3. Hope is sort of a douche for holding a grudge on Snow for half of the god damn game. But he is the one that grows the most mentally out of everyone by the end of the game. He’s able to think for himself and make good suggestions to the point where everyone is able to follow him.

I don’t find a purpose in snow being in this game much… I mean check it out… Noel the new protagonist gets game with Serah in the sequel LOL. I find that pretty sad.

Vanille all the way. She’s an anormally happy young woman who’s avoiding her apparently tragic past and fate, and secretly blames herself for turning Sazh’s kid into a crystal when she didn’t have a good reason for it. Her behaviour is classic denial!
