Okay, so I have heard the score.

Firstly, I would just like to say that the recording quality here is fantastic. I have always had big problems with past Zimmer scores, ala The Dark Knight for their horrible mixes which sound like somebody turned the bass knob up to its max setting.

Here the bass is powerful, but it’s naturally powerful, it doesn’t sound like a technician went mad on the EQ, it sounds like somebody with a great deal of intelligence mixed this score. The clarity reminds me of the brilliance of Bear McCreary’s superb recordings. I can only hope Zimmer’s scores will all sound like this in the future.

Secondly, now Zimmer is very hit and miss with me, but I must say I really enjoyed this score and look forward to hearing it alongside the film.

Considering it had moments in common with The Dark Knight which is one of his scores I didn’t like at all, I think this score is quite superior to either of his Batman scores.

It just goes to show that a fantastic recording can go a long way in terms of ones enjoyment of any given score.

I don’t think this is a great score, that being said, it gets a thumbs up from me.

ok Im going to rant for a minute, what doesnt make since, and maybe someone here can enlighten me here, but what doesnt make since is there are 2 bonus tracks for Inception, as a digital download only, fine, why is it only available at VCAST of all places, not itunes, not amazon, not walmart, not anywhere else I can find that you can download music from.
I can see wanting people to download music, fine but only one place , where you have to have a Verision account with, which means you have to have Verision as your provider.
I dont see the company making much money on this deal, and it makes many of us , frustrated that dont have or even want Verision.
I mean if you want us to download it rather than buy the cd or both, then offer the bonus tracks on other sites.

I’ve listened to it twice and while I agree that it’s not outstanding it is fantastic and not in your face or bombastic like Zimmer’s "Batman Begins" or "The Dark Knight" scores were with James Howard Newton. This is more more subtle, foreboding, and even sad which I’m guessing is the motif throughout the film due to the personal situation Leo’s character is facing. This is still among my favorite scores of the year but not my favorite overall which is what I was expecting.

I saw the film tonight, score-lovers… the film is a musical masterpiece, let alone the movie being one of the greatest films of the decade. Pretty much 99% of the movie is Hans Zimmer scored beauty. So this soundtrack release is woefully small, given almost the entire 2 and a half hours is wall-to-wall Zimmer. Incredible stuff.

It’s not often a cinema experience is this good… Totally buzzing. Just a quick share for y’all, but you’re gonna go nuts over the music in this flick… the sound mixing is amazing, never have I heard a movie that has this much score so deftly and perfectly placed… and when I say perfect… I mean… the entire fucking thing. Not that I’m looking to get into an argument over the whole Media Ventures vs Everything else issue, but I gotta say after previewing several tracks I didn’t like it very much. I understand watching the film makes it different, or maybe I’m just over Zimmer, or maybe I expected something more Dark Knight, but just sonically, as a musical experience it’s like Zimmer took a HUGE step back, circa 2000, on this one…Back to his Crimson Tide, Rock, Peacemaker and Gladiator days…I dont know if he’s trying to refine his prior work or regurgitate it, but I caught some Black Hawk Down moments in this…maybe a little precussion riff on the first Pirates movie…and of course his Media Ventures synth bombast that’d burn its way through speaker fabric (thanks Crimson Tide! I felt like Marty in Back to the Future part 1).

Main theme is catchy though…Amazing how he takes simple tones and makes it memorable…I dunno, though…This one’s an acquired taste for myself.

I like zimmers pre-2000 style though, i think his dark night style is rather boring.

If this is Zimmer attempting to bring back his old style, then I’m all for it, my favorite Zimmer scores are from his older style, which feature his Gladiator, Rock, Last Samurai, Black Hawk Down scores. The mixing is cleaner in those scores, the themes more poignant, the combination of electronic and live instruments more seamless. I’ve found most of Zimmer’s scores in the 2003-09 era to be flawed in many aspects, too drowned in electronics, fuzz, or distorted brass. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Sherlock Holmes hinted at him returning to his earlier style, and I was happier with those works.

If Inception is him continuing to bring back his old style, but progress with it, I’ll be a happy person.

Awesome. I picked out Tina Guo on cello — she’s played some amazing stuff for Sherlock Holmes and Battlestar Galactica.

About the score… I like it. Track #10 is a big disappointment (especially that Edith Piaf moment – wtf?), but the rest sounds nice. ‘Time’ is definitely the best. Kind of ‘Journey to the line’ style. Could last longer, though.

Overall 4/5. Good mood-builder score. Can’t wait to hear it in the movie.

True, but it is BECAUSE of that which is what makes it easier to use more then just one of his scores for my project. I can keep a similar theme and not have to worry about it sounding too off because I’m combining different movie scores for the same project…

So the press statement was wrong on http://press.warnerbrothers.com/site/preRelease.php

They also released the site www.inceptionscore.com an there is no mention of the bonus tracks.

And if you don’t believe me contact warner too and you will get the same reply. 🙂

I Saw the movie last night and it has exceeded my wildest expectations.

The trailers don’t do it justice.

Stellar performance from all. VFX, cast, music, you name it! It was all just mind blowing!

Just saw it and was incredibly impressed overall. The score did NOT disappoint in anyway. Cannot wait for a 2-disc release either! Thanks for posting!!

Actually The OST pretty much covers all the main music heard in the film, save extensions – which for the most part are rehashes of the main themes.

I did notice however that during the last 3rd of the movie the scenes set in the snow had different action bits that are not on this release.

I think Inception is definitely THE movie of this year, and one of the best years ago. But the music is very lame. Zimmers great times are over, I think…

The movie is far out. Even if it hadn’t been released in a lame season like summer ’10, it would still be one of the best of the year. As far as I can tell, the album more or less represents the highlights of the score. Like "Batman Begins," there are a few cues and variations that are absent, but this CD still encapsulates the "Inception" experience.

I think this is Zimmer’s best standalone work in a long time. The "droning" in the main theme music is one of those things that makes sense after you watch the movie. Of all the pieces of music, my favorite is probably Mal’s theme, which is very noir-ish.

I agree. Just saw the film too. Almost all of the action music from the last 40 minutes is missing which is a shame.

The album has many pointless tracks that go nowhere (like old souls). They better switches those tracks for the cool action music at the end of the movie.

I hope that they do a 2cd deluxe version like they did with Dark Knight.

Hi people, some news regarding the bonus tracks !

You asked me to contact HZ to get this clear, so I did !

He told me they do exist, and though it wasn’t clear for him either (lol), there’s a exclusive story with Verizon & iTunes (when it was for pre-order), according to him.

So I did tell him the current Verizon version has no bonus tracks, neither did the pre-order iTunes version, and showed him the WB comment about "only one digital version identical to the physical version"…

So HZ himself did send an email to the record company to clarify the situation and if possible make the tracks available by a way or another… 🙂

That my friend is the most awesome news of 2010 🙂

That’s awesome… but by the way, this score is just screaming for a 2-Disc Complete OST.

This is the best movie i’ve seen in a long time and it has a cracking soundtrack to go with it! They need to give this a 2CD soundtrack indeed!

You’re right. The "Elephant" track does end abruptly. Hopefully, they’ll sort this glitch out.

If you put the track before Dream Collapsing in your track list its not too bad, it kinda jumps instead of falling off a cliff.

Maybe it’s more of an in-between track that just happened to end up as a bonus track. I’m loving the two new ones though. This entire soundtrack is simply stunning.

"Elephants" isn’t meant to be an inbetween track. It’s labelled as track fourteen, which puts it at the end of the album, so it’s supposed to stand on it’s own.

Nope. At the very least this track is around 5 minutes long. It’s the cue that scores the van chase and the zero gravity fight with Arthur. No way is it 1:17 long. It’s an error.

I really didnt think it was, just a stab, it really doesnt flow in or out of the other tracks, Im inclined to believe as well , someone goofed.

Someone indeed did make a goof. Hopefully this matter will be handled professionally and rectified swiftly.

Clear your browsers cache. The file size is around 50% larger than before.

That’s what I have just done, more or less. I used a different browser to make the download this time.
