Hans Zimmer – Inception (including live recording, Junkie XL remix, 2 bonus tracks)

It’s time to return something to the FFShrine community 🙂

Release info

Inception is a very good movie. So is the score Hans Zimmer made for it.

The first cd of this release contains tracks that are on the official soundtrack. The second cd contains two bonus tracks (that were downloadable from the website), the Junkie XL remix on the Inception theme and the live performance of the Inception Score (that was performed on the premiere).

Some more information on the suite:

Oscar winning composer Hans Zimmer and heralded guitarist Johnny Marr (The Smiths, Modest Mouse, The Cribs) will perform a special concert backed by a 20-piece orchestra Tuesday, July 13th. Immediately following the film�s Los Angeles premiere, the one-time concert takes place at the official after-party on the same day as the soundtrack, Inception: Music From The Motion Picture, is released by Warner Bros. Records.

I ripped the performance using my in line recording, edited it using audacity and saved it as a FLAC file (I thought that converting it to MP3 would be useless, since the recording itself has already been streamed).

Disk 1 is the general release that we all own on CD 😉 Disk 2 works fine, unpack with 7zip.

Oi, Thought some of you may be interested in this article/video (http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/11/09/inception-score-turned-augmented-sound-project/) about Zimmer and Nolan getting involved with an iPhone app that augments playback of realtime sound recording. Interesting idea. Cheers.

"Dream is Collapsing" Hans Zimmer – seems to be remix of the original song. I like this one better :p

Junkie XL Remix? WHAT? thank you tons!

Wicked good! Especially 2nd version/remix of "Dream is Collapsing" … surprisingly, I like it better too … trailer nice addition … many thanks!

To add to this…There’s a "semi-decent" remix of "TIME" that if edited properly/cleaned up could extend the original "Time" cue rather nicely by about 4 minutes….If edited/cued right it’s like the original song goes into a beat mode, and sounds pretty cool.

Check out the original remix. If anyone knows how to make this sound better (or do a better remix), it would really bookend "Time" well (I think so anyway):

Didn’t know Zimmer did a live concert of the Inception soundtrack at the premiere!

Just a side note: Zack Hemsey’s Mind Heist is HDCD encoded.

If you use a HDCD decoder (foo_hdcd for foobar, WMP 9 and up, hdcd.exe etc.) you get a better dynamic range. This is because of HDCD’s peak extension

This picture shows a comparison between a foo_hdcd decoded wav file (top) and the flac file decoded by Audacity (bottom). Audacity does not support HDCD, so it’s not Audacity’s fault. 🙂

If you convert it to WAV or FLAC use at least 20-bit for full resolution.

(Unfortunately, all this is not true for Balfe/Zimmer’s score.)

I got the version from tehparadox.com. But no-one thought about decoding it. You can clearly see the dynamic range differences up there, can you? 🙂

Pity all the live recordings I have heard are all such crap quality… I wish there was a master one somewhere 🙁
