Vangelis ~ Blade Runner
“November 2011” edition
I surely did not want to add to the confusion around “Blade Runner” bootleg releases by making just another one. It was an idea of mine for five years but really got started with the release of the “EMS Recombination” edition that I wanted to cut down to my personal listening preferences…
Which of course evolved into another release. In the process I fixed some things, shortened lengthy sound-effects laden pieces, adjusted volume differences and added new material. Here’s an abbreviated overview of changes and differences to other releases, in particular the great work of the “EMS Recombination” team …
Prologue: adjusted dynamic range, among other tiny things
Los Angeles 2019: fixed ending
Empathy: better sound
Blues: better transition between album and tapes material
Deckard’s Dream: better sound from fresh material
Tears In Rain: fixed clipped parts
End Titles: fixed intro and outro
For the two covers and the complete artwork coming with this release I used the film’s titles font, “Goudy Catalogue”. I thought I’d share that information, too as it could not be found elsewhere on the web.
If you want to burn a CD or simply want to have a shorter listening experience, look at the enclosed playlist for an 80-minutes selection, which omits “Kowalski, Leon”, “Zhora” and the majority of the bonus section. It’s 80:29 (or 79:59 when using the alternate version of “Deckard’s Dream”) long, so – depending on the target media – it may be necessary to cut it down some more.
I’ll try to keep this one up-to-date, so if better material surfaces, … there’ll surely be another November.

Regarding artwork and burning: The “November 2011” edition is 91:56 (or 91:26) minutes long.
It will only fit on some kinds of (digital) audio tape, Hi-MD, non-standard CDs, optical media with bigger capacity or CDs with lossy codecs (for example MP3 or ATRAC).
If you want to burn two standard CDs, I suggest you make the break between tracks 13 and 14 as seen on the back cover.
Just convert it with foobar or Dbpoweramp.
But even if i’m not a lossless enthusiast, some scores are meant to be listened in lossless quality. Especially when Sinus had something to do with it 😀
thanks mate !
if people really need backcovers and stuff I’d deliver them in some days …

http://www.schoolwithin.net/az2.jpghttp://www.schoolwithin.net/uk.jpg
… see opening post for MP3 version and complete artwork.
This is an upgrade, not an update. It delivers complete artwork and a little bonus (or replacement) track: a slightly extended version of “Deckard’s Dream” but without the piano introduction …
<a target=’_blank’ href=’http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/834/65piano.jpg/‘><img src=’‘ border=’0’/></a>
Oooppsss… the piano just disappeared on this! It must be a magic trick! 😉

… that’s where my November 2011 edition finally was recorded to. A vintage magneto-optical medium in an almost retro-futuristic device. 🙂
I found the most satisfying listening experience (for me) by omitting Reprise (leaving Damask Rose as a very good "last dance"), Zhora (which is essentially source-music) and Kowalski, Leon …
No way! They should be in that archive.
Is that one of those old fashioned cassette tape?
Nope! 😉
This is Mini Disc (MD), I suppose 🙂
Yep! Hi-MD in PCM mode to be exact – lossless MD, so to say. 🙂
Now that was pointless carbon emission … Just downloaded MP3 version to check it. Nothing wrong. Contains all the files.
As for me I found myself burning two cd’s including the bonus tracks on a separate Mini CD eventually!
Another set just to include the Deckard’s Dream addition on a double cd jewel case!
Wicked collector’s treats! 😉

Obviously it did contain all the files! 🙂
We would have floated the thread with menaces if you wouldn’t have done that in the first place! 😉
For everything lossy have a look at Thread 72496
For almost everything lossless have a look at the http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/do-androids-dream-lossless-audio-files-blade-75274/.
Do keep both the lossy and the lossless versions of what you will be getting. Mp3’s tend to have more informations attached to them when properly tagged and referenced with the relevant infos.
For everything related to the film score have a look at the Thread 76419
A nice collection of music inspired to the soundrack by artists from different genres has been started there.
If you find your interest is veering towards Vangelis’ music in general check Thread 94478
There you will also find the rarest releases about the composer’s unreleased music.
Do start grabbing/reading from page one… ask for a re-upload (if needed at all) when you get to the very last post… everything should be still there courtesy of the uploaders… including most FAQ about the soundtrack.
There we have been answering the same questions all over again…
Everything comes to him who hustles while he waits ’til the last post usually… but feel free to ask again if needed! 🙂
Hope it helps! … and the best of luck and patience! 😉
Feel free to ask then… Have a look here at http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/blade-runner-soundtracks-ultimate-thread-72496/33.html#post1863054
If you mean the most faithful version to the music Vangelis wrote for the film I would say the Blade Runner – Restored/Remastered 2011… and if you are not that concerned about quality the Off World/Gongo editions…
The restored Blade Runner – Nexus 6 Version Volume 3 had both the Off World/Gongo editions merged into one anyway…
The Blade Runner – 2019 Edition is another good bet at that.
A nice try was also the Blade Runner – The Tapes Collection which tried to restore the sources used for the Off World/Gongo editions… but not as good as in the Blade Runner – Restored/Remastered 2011 perhaps.
Then if you want to be as complete as possible then you will have to pick up either the Blade Runner – EMS Recombination or the Blade Runner Complete Score by Spiderwalk.
The Sound Of Blade Runner Definitive Edition should be ideally perfect for you… as The Final Mix, or the Silver & All Those Moments editions… but there is some occasional FX on them
The Blade Runner – November 2011 edition is a bit shorter but it is a nice alternative too.
Then there’s a release called Blade Runner 29th Anniversary Edition which is ideally the closest to what you are asking… but it will be released soon.
I hope having been of some help for your quest! If you get round to scroll back the thread pages you will find more answers to your question anyway! 😉
Having said that, it shouldn’t be too difficult checking the thread pages for the links you need. Most releases are mirrored on the first page anyway.
Let the thread know what you think of them in case! 🙂
May I ask which ones did you delete?
…I guess I’ll start wading through those threads, grabbing as I go!
That’s the spirit! 😉
Try saving the file to hard disk and use a different mirror to get the file. Make sure you are using the correct password when decompressing. Just re-checked the Megaupload mirror and I did not get any error. Worked fine as expected…
Some tracks sounds compressed (as in dynamically altered) and EQ’d, I guessing you’ve done some remastering (think you mentioned that in your original post), so what software and plugins are you using?
Great work 🙂

EQ has only been used on rare occasions for editing purposes but not on overall sound. Some improvements in sound have been accomplished by subtle mixing. The only software used is Audacity (no compression, no normalization) without extra plug-ins.
You might want to compare it with the EMS recombination as my approach is mostly based on that.
yet one more blade runner soundtrack to add to my collection :rofldata:
and the confusion grows
Bye

thanks dvran!

Thinking that people will buy that original after getting this or that will try to get this after having bought that original… 🙁
"And I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad The dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take When people run in circles it’s a very very Mad world, world"
All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it’s a very very
mad world mad world
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy birthday, happy birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what’s my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me
And I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it’s a very very
Mad world, world
Enlarge your world
Mad world

How do you mean that? Did you mean the Workprint music?
I cannot be sure about the last stament, but the music used for the workprint was literally lifted from the master tapes used on Planet Of The Apes, The Hand, Humanoids From The Deep and God-only-knows what other film reel was picked up from the guys at Pinewood Studios.
I am pretty sure they cannot even remember what they have been cutting and pasting off the various masters they were having.
Most are available on the first editions of the soundtracks of those movies anyway (except The Hand which was never released) but in most cases the sources were edited.
We arranged a list with a very kind & helpful user and that will be released as part of the 29th Anniversary extra material I was working on… time permitting. 🙂
With the only exception of a couple of cues we we were lucky to spot them all… well he did! 😉

Hello Sinus: This looks like it would sound great! Any chance of myself getting it for download?
Thanks!
— Doctor Wholittle
Somehow, I can’t follow the link 🙁
Thank you very much for the link, my friend.
received!!!! thanks!!
I’m ashamed to admit that I haven’t seen Blade Runner yet, but it’s definately on the top of my ‘Watch Next’ list 😉
Since there are so many different cuts of the film; which one do you recommend for a first time viewer to have the biggest possible impact?
Watched it at my local cinema some weeks ago. A dream,
If not available, The "Director’s Cut". (:
😉
