At long last, gkgyver and I can present a special edition release of this score.
Working from the DVD film soundtrack as reference, gkgyver has lovingly and beautifully recreated the unreleased music from The Man with the Golden Gun. I have supplied some extra pieces that gkgyver was not able/did not need to supply. This is a project that has taken months of hard work and many hours to put together and complete but, it is now ready to be heard.
gygyver writes:
You may notice that a couple of cues are missing from this release, the reason for that being that, unfortunately, with the equipment at hand, it was not possible for me to achieve a sound that was satisfactory and on par with the other cues I have recorded. The music recorded by Nic Raine and the City Of Prague Orchestra was not used in this release because of severe differences in tone and tempo. I hope this doesn’t blemish your enjoying this release, as it was a great experience to delve this deep into John Barry’s music, even though The Man With The Golden Gun was not a favourite of his.
The score is presented in film sequence, with bonus tracks at the end. I supplied the commercially released music from the original EMI album and the album sequencing/mastering of the material has been undertaken by me also. But without doubt, the real hard work was completely undertaken by gkgyver. Kudos to him on a job very well done.
Enjoy the music, guys.

Thanks for posting this Takehiro!
Already done: Thread 89377
My hope is for: The Spy Who Loved Me. If yer listening Tak and GK… please….
Embarrassing synth replacements can’t make up for the missing, real stuff.
I wouldn’t have posted something like that.

And I Assume you can magically conjure up burned/thrown out/lost/destroyed tapes and remove sound effects? because if you cannot do any of those things I do not think you have any ground to stande on here.
Actually, I did a bit over 24 minutes of music total, using maybe 4 minutes of DVD material to layer over my recordings. There was little DVD ripped material for me to use.
As far as The Spy Who Loved Me is concerned, I have to put the kibosh on that for now. Not to dampen spirits, but in order to not get expectations too high. It has a very distinguishable sound that is damn hard to reproduce.
Like it or not, it is the closest you will get to a definitive presentation for a very very long time.

Would you ever try to do the same with Moonraker….
I gotta say I am mighty impressed with what you did with The Man With Golden Gun….Well Done

all these haters need to shut the fuck up.
gk, if you don’t mind me asking, what equipment, software, etc do you use?
i’m thinking about buying a keyboard but i want to be able to create fairly realistic sounding orchestral synth music.
I transcribe the pieces with Sibelius 2 and record them with SAM Brass, SAM TrueStrike, East West String Collection and VSL Woodwinds (1st Edition).
Special Edition Expanded Score
Enjoy the music, guys.
Already am! And thanks, laddies!
Both You, KaFaraqGatri and gkgyver, have done a million dollar shot!
The whole fine work had been really made with good taste and the right feeling.
Every Bond music fan has great reasons to enjoy of the remade bits and tracks of the score.
New recordings give us a new and free experience, instead of a lot of holes of unpleasant ‘nothings’ of silence.
A MILLION "HAI FAT" THANKS,
KaFaraqGatri AND gkgyver,
FOR ALL THIS ASTOUNDING WORK!
YOU ARE SECOND TO NONE!

The score for TMWTGG is more beautiful and interesting than its not-very-good reputation says. It’s quite easy, but with nice colours and exciting or atmospheric passages.
I think that the movie is underrated too, and some scenes have noticeable improvements from the score, like the night boat trip in Hong Kong bay or the search for the Scaramanga’s island. Nick Nack theme is funny too.
Also, Barry made some curious quotations from Herrmann’s Cape Fear…
Thanks a lot again!!!
PS: don’t forget (or forgive? π ) the guilty pleasure of the notorius whistle effect!

I fully understand GK. You’re right Spy does have a very particular sound. Maybe one for a future project? Now if only we could get a release of the film version of Spy’s score, we could chuck out that original OST travesty. There’s some great music there and instead we get a thirty minute road wreck of an OST.
Sorry, rant over.
Are you planning any more re-recordings? I see you’ve done some tracks for Octopussy and AVTAK.
The good things about it, IMHO, is all the time and dedication that obviously went into the project. The sound is, as others have pointed out, remarkable. Also the added re-recorded instruments make for a richer overall sound, I feel.
What I experinced to be less good about it, is that sometimes in the more quiet parts, the new re-recorded orchestral overdubs tend to sound more keyboard synthezied compared to the original recorded music, which caused the music not to gel as a whole, if you know what I mean? Is it possible to use another program to get a sound more closer to the original?
I don’t know about others in this thread, but since this is such an overlooked great score, I for one would be interested in hearing what the raw material sounded like. Would you consider uploading an alternative raw edition, if it’s not too much work? This all in my humble opinions of course. Thanks again π
No hardware keyboard synths were used in the creation of this album, but rather professional quality sample libraries. There is no "raw material" per se; what you hear is the output of a powerful software synth, made — if I am not mistaken — with samples taken from actual instruments. Our intention was not to set out to create a 1:1 indistinguishable recreation of a live orchestra, recorded and mixed by a team of technicians. That would be impossible. We don’t have a real orchestra and we don’t have a recording studio. We simply wanted to provide fans with a clean and faithful reinterpretation of the unreleased music. Furthermore, oiriginal sheet music was not available to gkgyver, so he had to compose, mix and prepare the pieces all by ear – a remarkable achievement.
Software-based music is never going to sound as natural as a real orchestra. But what gkgyver he has managed to achieve, I think, is of very good quality and more than acceptable for fans to enjoy until we get something better from the record companies – hopefully! π

I always thought it was a shame that this score was never expanded.
Beautiful sound. Have you done any other Bond scores?

Try here, the original thead. (Thread 77043)
Can’t wait to hear the rest.Even J.Barry would have been proud of your work…
MWTGG is superb!!
My personal wish-list for such "upgrades" is rather short:
ZEPPELIN by Roy Budd (because I know where the tapes for this one are and believe me, we’re not going to get them in the foreseeable future)
DAMNATION ALLEY by Jerry Goldsmith – INCLUDING the synth overdubs.
Copy the link in the first post of the thread, and paste it into the browser command line, and action it.
If you don’t understand what a link is, you’re in the wrong place.
