Thank you scorepranos! This is another one I’ve been wanting for a while in great quality. I hope one day it gets a legit release, until then this will do just fine.
I’ve never had the chance to formally thank you for your contributions to this site over the years and the many wonderful scores that many of us common folk most probably thought we’d never see. Thank you for all the shares, for putting up with those few who questioned your intentions and demanded more, no matter what you released. Not everyone will be satisfied, no matter what you share, and I’m honestly surprised you’ve stuck around this long. For me personally, I’ve acquired with your help a variety of scores I’d given up hope of ever seeing, and will be grateful for a long time to come. Thanks for all the years, and wishing you good fortune in the years to come.
Thank you.
love this score
Or would that be too weird? :erm:
Don’t answer, it’s happening.
THANK YOU SO MUCH Scorepranos ๐
Lion King complete, *faints*…
Holy crap, thank you so much scorepranos, absolutely amazing, can’t wait to hear this! ๐
Now I’m really ticked off that my 9+ hr shift starts right now
Scorepranos, thank you very very much. This is probably the best thing you cold ever give us
I’m sure I’m not alone when I say we wish you a speedy recovery.

Thanks a trillion, Scorepranos. I truly appreciate it!!!!!!
In between cues, yes.
This does not contain the film versions of 1M2 or 2M3. Now, before you say "Digging, boo you for having a go at scorepranos", I’m making an observation, and will elaborate: I covered both of those myself and so I really don’t mind not having the official versions. 9M21 Hawaiian War Chant is also absent, but it can easily be ripped from the movie clean. Go get it, you lazy bums :p

I’ve been waiting for you to see this and post as I know how long you’ve wanted it and what it means to you to get it finally! Am really happy for you ๐
Thanks ๐
BTW, I’m seeing on the H-Z site an alternate "Mufasa’s Dead". I’m assuming this is just an edited version though (probably the album version with the intro from this version stuck on the beginning)
I would also like to add that those who hoarded the (alleged) FYC all this time. IN YOUR FACE. I know you hoarded this because it’s rare, and this is the time that I actually feel grateful, not because I got it but because, knowing full-well that many people wanted this, you willingly kept it from us for all this time. How does it feel to be on the receiving end of your own grand disdain, I do wonder? Not a dig at hoarders or traders, just at the Lion King FYC guys.

I didn’t think an FYC edition of this existed. As for hoarders, I’m sorry to say I know one and someone who really gets off on posting clips of what he has to wind up others on various TV and Disney forums. He did actually used to be a friend until I shared the Disney movie instrumentals on here (my find in the first place, so none of his bloody business), which really pissed him off! He’s also one of those people that’ll collect something because it’s rare and not because he has any genuine appreciation of the music – go figure!
If it did – and truth be told given it was an Academy-awarded score so it should have – it was most likely done via tape and not CD because CDs were not even a twinkle in the eye of digital media that far back. The tapes most likely don’t even have good quality any more. In either case, they have egg on their faces.
Plus, an FYC-styled edit was on my to-do list anyways.
Funy you should mention that…
Thanks for this, you are the man.

Making an inlay or something? I have the Blu-ray, but not a blu-ray drive on my p.o.s. laptop. Can a screenshot be taken somehow with the player or TV?
P.S.
I think ‘The Elephant’s Graveyard’ one of my most favourite tracks from this.

All I got was the mono bootleg searching with Google.
It sure is, along with TTRL and TLS, best music Zimmer has ever written.
Thanks Scorepranos for sharing… now I’m only left with the completes/sessions of Inception and TLS. One day, I’m sure!
I wasn’t being serious. It was late, I was tired, I saw an opening and I went for it. Scorepranos has many treasures. Many of which he has been generous enough to share

Thanks, T-Mann036 & Pagemaster65 for Covers.
I have an external Blu-ray burner that plugs into my laptop via USB. It’s perfect. No lag, no issues at all. That’s how I back up files, especially my music collection.
They don’t look like Blu-ray screenshots. Definitely not the top. Did anyone think to check Blu-ray.com? There may or may not be a screenshot of the bridge
Blu-ray.com’s screenshots are all watermarked and would probably be of no use for making cover art.
Not interested in this score (or film) but I’ve known it’s been a "grail" for many for a long time so I came to check out the comments. Kudos to Scorepranos once again.

These are perfect! Now I just have to find time to do what I want to do with them.
Inlay, back cover, something.
I don’t normally go with the 4:3 ratios for CD box sizes.
I like going for resolutions that fit my monitor when I fullscreen.
Almost like a wallpaper.
I have two monitors, so I’ll have to make two.
I only hear a slight "static" buzz for a mere second at 10:27.
"buggy sample rate converter" would imply the music was originally in a different sample rate. Like 48kHz or 88.5kHz or 96.
I don’t remember too much from the thread, but I don’t remember it saying anywhere the original audio was anything else other than 44.1kHz.
Nothing came up that sticks in my memory.
Very unlikely it’s due to a buggy sample rate converter as it appears no sample rate conversion has taken place.
The tags say the files were created using iTunes. But iTunes uses CoreAudioToolbox for it’s AAC converions.
The CAT libraries can be extracted and used with QAAC to create AAC (raw files) or M4A (portable media comparability).
This could be just a slight processing error or a slight mastering error.
Using SoX 14.4.1, I’ve created a spectrogram with a resolution of 1920×1080. You can view it full screen and zoom in and not really see anything out of the ordinary.
Open image in new tab, save, open, zoom in.
Very unlikely it will haunt me when I listen to it in the future.
Be glad it didn’t happen more often within the score.
I thought as much as my bootleg copy of the 1999 Berlin cast recording instrumentals for ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ (Alan Menkin’s threatrical re-envisaging of his movie score) has the same artifcat (and worse unfortunately) on a few of the tracks. Incidentally, did you have direct access to the DAT tape itself for this set? Also, is what you posted a copy of someone’s DAT copy they made of this much-talked about FYC tape of the score?
and spend $1000 of dollars on a DAT player just to listen to promos lol
Yes I know that. If anything was produced promo-wise for the academy members, it would have been done on cassette tape like another of Hans’ scores ‘The Preacher’s Wife’ which I’ve got was. Also, I was only speculating as to the original source (i.e. a transfer of the cassette tape onto a DAT one), which a fan of the score might have done to preserve it. For example, I’ve done transfers myself of the instrumental scores to ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘Hunchback of Notre Dame’, which I originally had on cassette tape and that’s what the sound/fidelity of your ‘Lion King’ tracks reminded me of.
Yeah you’re definitely right there come to think of it. I had to work quite hard on my transfers to correct/perfect them in that respect.

Two thumbs up to you Hack3rman and Scorepranos!
Be glad it didn’t happen more often within the score.
It actually sounds like it was originally there to begin with: the album version sounds like that error was cleaned out.
From what I’ve seen of these contracts, the potential release of any work undertaken and in whatever form, is usually covered by them from the off.
This is information I found on the soundtrack album.
"I JUST CAN’T WAIT TO BE KING" (2:50)
Arranged and Produced by Mark Mancina
"HAKUNA MATATA" (3:33)
Arranged and Produced by Mark Mancina and Jay Rifkin
"CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIGHT" (2:57)
Arranged and Produced by Mark Mancina
Additional Vocal Arrangement: Bruce Fowler, Bobbi Page, Mark Mancina
Score Choral Arrangements by Lebo M., Nick Glennie-Smith, Mbongeni Ngema and Andrae Crouch
Score Conducted By Nick Glennie-Smith
From the looks of it, Mancina was only involved in the songs and Glennie-Smith only served as a conductor and additional arranger which he did on many occasions (at the time).
They prefer to hold onto these things until they rot rather than pay the re-use fees / royalties to release additional material. Labels like "La-La Land" and "Intrada" have been making good headway but certain titles they aren’t privy to, Titanic being one of them because of the same re-use / royalty payment issue. There’s nothing special about Titanic that Sony won’t release it, they just don’t want to have to spend the money to do so.
That is most likely. The album is actually made much the same way because digital methods didn’t really exist back in 1994.
I actually had a quick listen to the bootleg copy I’ve had for some years now and that is just bloody awful by comparison! Furthermore, to think that’s all that existed up until now because of the studios’ refusal to release it proper. And there’s me thinking (and forever being told by them), they’re in business to make money. God, what does it cost to release something that’s already been recorded and mastered, and that they hold the copyright to?! The same is true of ‘Titanic’ and despite the demand for a proper release of that, they’re still not budging. The mind boggles…
Yep, the old bootleg is now a memory ๐ I think it’s also clear that the old boot was a badly-ripped version of a DAT tape: I remember the old excuse being that they could only rip one channel from 4M9B to 7M17 because of ‘damage’ but those tracks were mono and not single l/r channels. Basically, they fucked up ripping it.
Contractually, if I’m correct, they would owe money to all the people involved and would have to pay them all again a percentage of what they’d been paid before (from recording team to performers to composer). That’s why so few things from the 90’s have been re-released (from my understanding)
I guess I’m not that privvy to contracts, but would this not count if they released a modified CD, like they did with the Lion King Special Edition CD?
Re-releasing an album with the same contents is one thing, but anything that’s been added has to be paid for in the same manner (I think) as the original release if it’s like a film score with added cues, because technically it would be the first time those additional recordings would be released, making it brand new – at least in the case of the added material only.
But that’s just speculation on my part.
But that’s just speculation on my part.
That might explain why "The Hyenas" never made it onto any of the English-language re-issues.
The added material came in the form of two bonus CDs, one having songs "of the period" and the other recordings made for use in the film by the on-screen orchestra. Neither of them connected to the score and therefore nowhere near as expensive.
By this extension, I think all the old talk of the FYC Promo is fake: THIS, I believe, is what the FYC probably contained.
BTW, The two missing pieces (film versions of 1M2 and 1M3/2M3) I covered myself. I can upload them if anybody wants them.
Be warned, these ARE covers. They’re not the original pieces, they’re done by ear because there’s no sheet music from the film out there that I know of. These are essentially inserts to I edited them into the cue proper. I think I got them as close as I could though, so here you go:

You’re welcome.
I’ve just acquired every note of the musical version which includes an expanded version of ‘Be Prepared’ among others.
Ooh, blimey, does it include all the Zimmer cues the Broadway CD left out? That’d be an interesting hear!
Cool!
Not quite sure…but it’s good to see Hans out of the studio for a change. :p

Just like 100% of all other music and media companies.
Huge thanks for that. I’m sure loads of people will be delighted by it also!
Thanks for the upgrade! ๐
SWEET! Thank you for the upgrade!
Thanks for adding the FLAC version, Scorepranos. I’ll add that along with the MP3 (320kbps) to the collection.
I wonder if anybody has come across any of the alternative tracks, though. I’m aware of at least three: alternates for Scar’s Dinner, Sunrise at Pride Rock and Mufasa’s Dead. There’s probably one or two more as well, such as an alternate midsection to Circle of Life (with a different pan flute performance). Let’s not even get into the film mixes because I’m still deciphering that one.

And, also, differences in percussion for Stampede and Homeward Bound in the film. ๐
Now i hope some label can finally release this, and Mulan too btw!! Maybe Intrada in their series of Disney albums.
I mean physically on a CD, packaged in a nice set with liner notes and all that, and not on a crappy itunes exclusive with a lossy format, that happened few days ago with the Jurassic Park *bah*
Their server(s) were most likely busy…I’ve just tried to download it: average speed of 156-160kbps, more or less 35 minutes to complete the download.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Indeedy. Actually, Stampede, I think, is still edited down here. I think if you look to the musical version, there are two sections that exist there that might have been in the original cue just before and during the "Herd Is On The Move" lull
Are you going by the track from that I sent you?
Yes and no: the exact same compostition for The Stampede is present on the Broadway CD. Listening closely, you can hear the brass note before the interlude is reverbed artificially, and you can hear two notes at the end of the interlude that go into the expanded presentation, but in the sessions, they are faded out before they can continue. Mixing the two together, and it sounds quite natural, different performances aside.
Never heard of that track before.

The channels in the film itself sound SFX-ridden to me, and I’m aware in the case of Hakuna Matata they just used the end section of the album, but man, you got all that clean. I wonder how!
Circle of Life is different in the film too IIRC: the lull uses a different pan flute performance, while towards the end, the chorus is shadowing Carme Twillie.

If anybody could share the Hawaiian War Chant in lossless, that would be superb.
Quick question! How did you find out what the cue numbers are (ie. 1M1) – any idea where the orchestral sheet music might be hiding?
Quick question! How did you find out what the cue numbers are (ie. 1M1) – any idea where the orchestral sheet music might be hiding?
The cue numbers for the large part were what the score was labelled as. However, the songs are actually straight from the album, not the sessions, so I have no idea how he found out what those cue numbers are. I’m assuming somebody has the sheets, and I’d love to see those.
Well isn’t it as simple as inserting the song after whichever cue is played, and then finding out the slate that way? Like let’s say there’s cue 3m18 and then 3m20. And its a given that said song plays after 3m18 and before 3m20, so wouldn’t said song be 3m19? That’s just my theory
Sometimes, yes, but the songs usually come between M numbers anyway. Like Be Prepared, which is 4M9 A here. What happened to 3M8/4M8/whicheverM8? I think the only given ones are 1M1 Circle of Life, 7M18 Can You Feel The Love Tonight (owing to the fact that there are no 8Ms at all: that’s mislabelled here, I saw a documentary with a glimpse of Nala Simba Mufasa Ghost and it definitely said it was 7M19, not 8M19), and 9M20 Hawaiian War Chant.
The only way to know for certain is if the sheet music for those songs has been presented in some form or another.

Dolby Digital 5.1

DTS 7.1 HD MA
The 5.1 tracks are likely to be similar to the Diamond Edition DVD tracks with poor sound quality. The 7.1 is the one I’m interested in looking at.
YOUR library has Blu-rays? Damn, I wish mine would upgrade. I have The Lion King Blu-ray, and if I had a way of getting it on here, I would
Likewise. I DID, however, get The Tree of Life on Blu-ray (how dazzling it looked) from my library, although I had to request it via another library. I just picked it up at my library. It still had the digital copy disc and code inside and no one used it!! So I snagged it ๐
I’ve got the blu-ray, which I did rip once but don’t remember it having a 7.1 track, just the normal 5.1 version. Will check it when I get back and let you know.
Yeah, I work at MY library.
I just checked, the rear channels are polluted with echo from the dialog as both scenes (Scar’s Dinner and Sunrise at Pride Rock) are set in caves.
I take it the front channels are also useless? Pity…
Yes, even more so. I do have to admit though that my system is only 5.1 so I suppose the two side surround channels of DTS HD MA 7.1 are mixed into the two rear surround channels in order to obtain a DTS 5.1 downmix. I cannot tell whether there’s untainted music in either the side or rear surround channels, someone with a true 7.1 system should probably check.
I did post covers of these pieces and I think they’re pretty damned close. It’s more or less me trying to assemble a set that has as much as possible, as well as a complete picture on how the movie was scored. Allegedly Zimmer wrote four hours worth of music. There’s three alternatives I know of (none of which are present on this particular set – even though the sessions, according to Hybrid on H-Z.com, contain one of those alternates).
That means I have only one animated movie holy grail left…
I did say one animated holy grail. The Star Wars Prequels and Lost World are my non-animated grails :p
As I said, it’s not really that much of a bother. My covers sound close enough to me as it is.
Seconded. Looks like an awesome release, if someone could re-up the FLAC version that’d be fantastic. Kudos to everyone who’s put all that effort into this.

Thanks so much!!
I’ve read about a program that’s to be released in September sometime. It says it has these features.
– work up to six times faster
– remove or reduce reverb
– clean up dialogue
– use eyes and ears
– never lose an edit again!!!
I’m gonna try my best to get ahold of this…. anybody else can do the same with this. Here’s the website
iZotope RX3 – COMING SOON! (https://www.izotope.com/products/audio/rx3/index.asp#email)
HOWEVER, when i DO get ahold of this, I AM going to finally finish my projects known in my signature (Aladdin, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, West Side Story, Julie Taymor’s 2007 british musical adaption of The Beatles "Across the Universe", Mamma Mia! (possibility), etc in the future) so if people can leave those projects to me, everything will be just fine. ๐
as for the echo in the lion king, you can use this program to remove that annoying reverb and try your best to remove the sound effects.
Thank you for your time.
ALL HEAR THIS!!!!!

But seriously, TLK is a great saga that gives money to Disney and the music has been recognized all over the yeas, it’s still weird that there’s no official complete music release.
Royalties are usually the killer and they would be here because Zimmer doesn’t actually deserve as much credit as he gets as he wasn’t sole composer. Lebo M, Nick Glennie-Smith, Mark Mancina and Bruce Fowler all had a hand in composing this score. Plus, Disney have seldom been known to allow complete or even expanded versions of their soundtracks.
Is this the most complete and best I can get?
Not to mention the tracks have a little something at the start and end, but I can’t complain about that.
It’s not complete, no, but it’s the as-composed score. Scar’s Dinner and Sunrise At Pride Rock were further revised after this, and those revisions have yet to appear.
Mirror on HugeFiles (http://hugefiles.net/fmwvr7el8w99)
Maybe one day Intrada will make a complete release.
That will be a great day!
That’d certainly be a heck of a set. From H-Z.com, we know there’s an Alternate to Mufasa’s Dead, there’s alternates to Scar’s Dinner and Sunrise at Pride Rock. I think there’s actually an alternate to every major cue in the film. Not forgetting the many revisions the songs went under. Plus, Zimmer likes including suites, so we’d be looking at a set of at least 4 CDs, I reckon.
Pity he doesn’t seem to put nearly as much thought into his modern scores, though.
Pity he doesn’t seem to put nearly as much thought into his modern scores, though.
I actually have an alternate take of 1m3-2m3 What Am I Going to Do…Sunrise at Pride Rock. It still doesn’t include the insert that’s in the film version, but its almost half tempo. Gives off a very different feel.
Is it a genuine alternate take, or just a slowed-down version of the one here? I’d be interested in taking a look.
Id have to listen to it again since its been a while, but from what I can remember, it was a genuine take. It didnt have any of the artifacts that comes with slowing down audio.
https://www.mediafire.com/?7xqeymyurrxjku8
Containing:
Scar’s Dinner (Film version) – without the overlay at the end which is from the version in the sessions.
Sunrise At Pride Rock (Film version) – retains most of the cue from the sessions with a mocked-up intro and the inserts in place.
I got them both as close as I could to the film versions without sheet music, all by ear and using the DVD channels as my guide. I haven’t actually tested them to see if they sync up perfectly to film, but I think they’re close enough.
FL Studio. But there’s always going to be a disparity between a synth-made piece and a live orchestral recording, especially without sheets to help.
So, can I inquire how this turned out?
Does anyone have a link that still works or could someone re-upload the FLAC copy?
I would really appreciate it!

Walt Disney Records The Legacy Collection ? The Lion King (http://disneymusicemporium.com/)
A new series of releases call "The Legacy Collection" with the first in this series being The Lion King! If this is an expanded or complete release, and it’s successful, maybe this will lead to other Disney films for a "Legacy" release. Maybe the other 2 Lion King films, or (I’m hoping) a complete or expanded release for Toy Story 1 & 2.

I hope now well get to hear the insert from "1m3-2m3 What Am I Going To Do/Sunrise At Pride Rock", or now called "We Are All Connected" according to the tracklist.
Just pre-ordered btw!

This is fantastic. My favorite Zimmer score and it’s the first to be released. It’s about damn time Disney did something
My favorite Zimmer score too! I just went on D23 (which is wear this tracklist originated I found out) and it said that it contains 30 minutes of unreleased score, so probably not complete. But still expanded though! I hope the same goes for Toy Story (my favorite Randy Newman score).
Depends on how you look at it. Roughly twenty minutes of score is out there on the albums already. The sessions, minus the songs, are about 56 minutes. And they may not be counting the demo versions.
Depends on what the demos are. Also depends on what they mean when they say "The original motion picture soundtrack".
One such demo cue has probably been mentioned before as an alternate to Mufasa’s Dead, which has a different section and an obvious synth quality to some parts. There are undoubtedly bits you will have to pull from the film, however, such as the film mix of Stampede. There is also a bit you will have to pull from the laserdisc/Blu-Ray, and that’s the deleted "Be Prepared Reprise" which sounds practically done there.
Here’s the list from the D23 site. From what I understand, they are only doing this til 2015, but Im sure if it’s popular enough and they sell a lot of these, they might extend it.
The 2014 release schedule for Walt Disney Records The Legacy Collection follows:
??? The Lion King, June 24, 2014
??? Mary Poppins, August 26, 2014
??? Sleeping Beauty, October 7, 2014
??? The Little Mermaid, November 17, 2014
The 2015 release schedule for Walt Disney Records The Legacy Collection follows:
??? Fantasia, January 3, 2015
??? Pinocchio, February 3, 2015
??? Toy Story, March 17, 2015 (YEA!!!!!)
??? Disneyland, April 7, 2015
??? Lady and the Tramp, May 12, 2015
??? Pocahontas, June 23, 2015
??? The Aristocats, August 14, 2015
??? Cinderella, August 14, 2015

This is all a little technical for me lol, but I do own the Blu-ray and a PC with a Blu-ray drive, so problem #1 solved ๐

If memory serves me right, Beauty and the Beast is 1992, the next Anniversary would be 25th in 2017, as we’re already past it’s 20th Anniversary from 2012. I can see it happening.
Ya but with the OST and FYC, is it not complete?

Now… I REALLY want this soundtrack– extremely badly!!!!!
Probably, but you never know, there may be some alternates unreleased or something. (perhaps some microedits…) (also the instrumental version/reprise of "To Be A Man" used in the Finale is unreleased)
Very nearly, but so is The Lion King and look at all the new demos we’ll be getting!
Beauty and the Beast was 1991, so it’s 25th Anniversary would be in 2016.
2016 would also be the 35th Anniversary of Fox and the Hound, which has never had a cd release, as well as the 20th Anniversary of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, the 55th Anniversary of One Hundred and One Dalmatians, the 65th Anniversary of Alice in Wonderland, and the 75th Anniversary of Dumbo. Let’s hope they continue this line of soundtracks through then.
Well the Lion King technically does not have an FYC, that we even know of. I’ll bet HZ doesn’t even know
I’m with you on Beauty and the Beast, but they didn’t list it yet, so I don’t see this coming before 2016.
I wonder if that means they know of the sessions leak.
I wonder if that means they know of the sessions leak.
That’s interesting wording, but technically the unheard music has been heard because of the leaked sessions… only unofficially.
The demos haven’t.
You’re right and I may have misread what ggctuk2005 was saying. Is there is actually more than 30 minutes that have been officially unreleased that will be included in this set, but the press release says only 30 minutes? I’m starting to confuse myself here, sorry.
There’s reports that the album tracks are actually slightly slower than they should be.
I do trust Randy Thornton to pull it out of the bag. Always.
(I’m more intrigued as to what could be on a new Poppins release so soon after the last. The uncut Irwin Kostal score? Maybe the FULL Sherman demo tape at last? I’d buy it again if it was merely two discs of Dick Van Dyke eating peanuts, mind you)

I think we’re talking about the original soundtrack, as opposed to the music in the film.
If you wait a month and a bit, you’ll get everything including the stuff that scorepranos didn’t share and didn’t have.

I’m so thrilled for that…. Walt Disney finally gave us what we want!!
It’s not in the tracklist, so it won’t be included. And I think I can tell you why: it’s the only piece from the movie that comes from outside. Disney does not own the rights to Hawaiian War Chant and therefore cannot include it.
No-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ow… I’m achin’! It’s OK though.
Damn! I had assumed that’s what "Warthog Rhapsody" was since it’s performed by the same actors and not listed as a demo. Why would they give us some nonsense from the Rhythm of the Pridelands cd? Now I’m disappointed.
And I think I can tell you why: it’s the only piece from the movie that comes from outside. Disney does not own the rights to Hawaiian War Chant and therefore cannot include it.
Not the ONLY piece; we’ll also never get that track of Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella singing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Apparently the rights holders sued Disney after the song was included on the Broadway cast album.
We’re getting Warthog Rhapsody because it was originally meant for the film. It was replaced in the end by Hakuna Matata.
Not the ONLY piece; we’ll also never get that track of Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella singing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Apparently the rights holders sued Disney after the song was included on the Broadway cast album.
The Lion Sleeps Tonight is the only piece that doesn’t have a place on the cue list. So it’s not an actual part of the score.
That makes sense, I guess. But it just raises the question of why they don’t include the demo of Be Prepared (Reprise).
Also, when you say there are reports of the album tracks being slower than they should be, do you mean you’ve heard this from somebody who’s gotten ahold of the new Legacy edition or are you talking about one of the editions we already have? I know most of the bootlegs are at the wrong speed, but if the new tracks on an "official" release aren’t even at the correct speed that’s sorely disappointing.
I’m not sure on that point. Maybe it was never finished? Or maybe it was lost and the only versions available are in the storyboard scenes?

I’m only going on what I’ve heard, which is that the tracks on the album are slightly slower than they should be when compared to the film.
I was discussing this with a friend a bit ago and he read a claim somewhere that the slower speed was actually how the orchestra recorded it and that the score was then sped up to fit the scenes in the movie. If true, then I’ll be glad to get it at the slower speed that it was actually played at by the orchestra. Hopefully the liner notes on the album will confirm if this is true.
That’s very interesting. I wonder if something similar happened with A Game of Shadows and that’s why the OST is so fucked up
I know that Intrada doesn’t have anything to do with this. But after what they did, I’m watching out to ALL labels available in the face of the Earth so I won’t get too disappointed if this turned out to be a disaster.
Here’s the final tracklist.

12. Can You Feel The Love Tonight Elton John (4:03)
Some notes:
The main five songs are identical to the versions included in past soundtrack releases.
A lot of the Score seems to have extra instruments that can’t be heard in the rip scorepranos posted. Someone who’s more of an audiophile than me can compare when the CD comes out, but being an official studio release, this is obviously higher quality and the superior version.
Track 4 is the scene with Simba talking to Scar up to just before I Just Can’t Wait To Be King.
Track 12 is from the scene with Scar telling the other Lionesses that Mufasa and Simba died. The music from the Hyenas chasing Simba out of the Pride Lands is at the end of Track 11.
A snoring sound can be heard at the start of Track 19. Oops.
Timon’s Hula Song is at the end of Track 20.
Disc 2 has some online content linked to on the disc. Unfortunately, the website it’s being hosted on isn’t up yet. It just redirects me to a 403 Forbidden page. There’s nothing in the book or on the disc that tells me what it is.
The Morning Report is the version from the Special Edition DVD.
Warthog Rhapsody is the version from Rhythm of the Pride Lands.
Not really sure what the Score Demos are about. They’re earlier versions of the music I suppose, but they are still full orchestrations and sound similar to the music from the final film only with a bunch of minor changes here and there. It’s still nice that Dinsey included them and they are neat to listen to.
And the packaging. Rather than being in a standard CD case, this is actually a small book containing lyrics and concept art with two folders for the discs in the back of it. The fact that it’s a book is nice, but I’m not a fan of the way the discs are held. It’s easy for them to slide out or get scratches if you are not careful with them.

AAAHHHHHH! I BEG YOU! PLEASE, PLEASE, POST IT… PLEASE! I won’t be able to buy it because I live in Brazil… :/
AAAHHHHHH! I BEG YOU! PLEASE, PLEASE, POST IT… PLEASE!
Oh, come on! We only have to wait a little over 2 more weeks.
Even if you choose to share it privately, someone might end up putting the entire thing as one track onto YouTube, just like Star Trek Into Darkness.
Hell yeah! Sold!
Edit: Comparing track lengths with scorepranos’ release, everything seems to be just about the same, most differences are only a few seconds shaved off which I’m guessing is just removing silences, so we know that the speed of the tracks will be the same as what we have now. The one track length difference (besides track 20) is Hakuna Matata, which is about 30 seconds longer. I’m curious about that.
So the songs are identical? Does this mean that the hyena chorus is EXACTLY the same in Be Prepared as the album, and not in the film? And only Nala sings the line "No one saying See Here!"? Just curious.
Makes me wonder: did the sessions only leak in the first place because they had pulled those pieces out of the vault for this release?
The demo of Mufasa Dies: That has the "This Land" arrangement in place of the material that appears in the film?
EDIT: From a glance: Hakuna Matata is 4:08. The OST is 3:35. That means that Hakuna Matata is actually the film version. And at 2:52, Can You Feel The Love Tonight is actually SHORTER than the album. Perhaps they omit the silly crying sounds at the end? So this might mean the other three songs have similar alterations that somebody might be able to pick out: the additional chorus in Circle Of Life and Be Prepared springs to mind. Hyenas In The Pride Lands is shorter too.
Can you tell us whether tracks 2 and 3 are identical to the earlier leak, or whether they match the film versions? Perhaps track 3 on disc 1 is the film version and track 3 on disc 2 is the version we hear in the sessions, or vice versa? (You cannot tell this from the track times alone as their tempo would be the same as the original cues)
Oh, come on! We only have to wait a little over 2 more weeks.
lol, I’m in the UK, ordered it on Amazon.com and have chosen to expidite the delivery and I still have to wait a month! :p Still, it’s something to look forward to from mid-July ๐
The one track length difference (besides track 20) is Hakuna Matata, which is about 30 seconds longer. I’m curious about that.
The instrumental segment of the song is longer than on other album releases.
So the songs are identical? Does this mean that the hyena chorus is EXACTLY the same in Be Prepared as the album, and not in the film? And only Nala sings the line "No one saying See Here!"? Just curious.
Be Prepared is the album version with Scar’s dialogue at the beginning. I’ve never noticed the hyena chorus was different, but comparing it to a youtube video of the scene from the movie, the movie version of them shouting "LONG LIVE THE KING!" is different than what’s on this album. Both Simba and Nala sing "No one saying see here" in I Just Can’t Wait To Be King.
Makes me wonder: did the sessions only leak in the first place because they had pulled those pieces out of the vault for this release?I only know the official album release and whatever scorepranos posted.

It’s the same arrangement you hear in the movie.
And at 2:52, Can You Feel The Love Tonight is actually SHORTER than the album. Perhaps they omit the silly crying sounds at the end?
The crying has been shortened slightly. And I’m guessing that’s whats spilling over into the beginning of the next track.
So this might mean the other three songs have similar alterations that somebody might be able to pick out: the additional chorus in Circle Of Life and Be Prepared springs to mind. Hyenas In The Pride Lands is shorter too.
Somebody smarter than me can pick apart the songs when the album comes out. Hyenas In The Pride Lands has a few seconds of silence at the end that isn’t in the album.

Track 2 has a few seconds of silence that was removed from the Legacy Collection. In Track 3, the Legacy Collection version has a short Busa medley that can be heard about a minute in that’s not in the other rip. The demo version of that track is something different entirely. (It has the second half of Hyenas In The Pride Lands mixed into it for some reason.) If there’s any other differences, they are minor and not something I would immediately notice. There’s something about the Legacy Collection that makes it sound more lively than scoreprano’s rip.
Well said, T-Mann but unfortunately not everyone has the same virtues as you and I
I also think it would be disappointing if someone were to post it, all of the people who download it are spoiling it for themselves. It’s like snooping for Christmas presents and then finding out what you’re getting. I for one would hate to spoil it, and will be holding off until my copy arrives.
I won’t request the music but I’d love to have some scans of the booklet/credits !! lol
Right you are. And hey, we’ve all done it. But I cannot see the good this would do towards the other releases in the future.
I???ve ordered a copy and it would be a great moment. I love it to open the case and pull out the booklet, I love the smell, the moment when I see the content of the booklet and of course the sound of taking out the cd for the first time, wonderful, so lets hope that it is a good mastered CD and the friends from disney doesn???t make a loudness war shit!
That pretty much sums it up. I even wash my hands before handling it as not to get any dirt or oil on the booklet. How OCD is that?!?!
Just a couple of queries from me – are any of the tracks crossfaded, or do they flow gaplessly into each other? And is the album mastered too loudly, brickwall limiting and all?
Thanks a lot again. ๐
(http://blogs.disney.com/insider/2014/06/05/exclusive-new-art-from-the-legacy-collection-the-lion-king/)
Sure, but we both know this will hit the shrine right around its release date and you’ll get to hear it before July.
Sadly, we do know this, and it won’t exactly help. Sure, I’ll get an advance listening, but it’ll not do future titles any good.
There is crossfading between tracks 4 and 5 and tracks 18 and 19, but that’s it. As for brickwall limiting, I don’t think there’s any, but I’m not the person to ask on that subject. The quality sounds fine to my ears.
I like this one……… ๐
(Painting)
There’s more artwork like this inside the booklet as well as some early concept art from the movie. A lot of it looks great.
So, I Just Can’t Wait To Be King and Hakuna Matata are the film versions.
It’s the same arrangement you hear in the movie.
I’m not too sure we’re on the same page. I know that "Mufasa’s Dead" on disc 1 is the exact same arrangement as the film. But there’s another version which has a different arrangement between 0:34-1:09 that has Mufasa’s theme on a pan flute. It has some synth-quality elements to it at the end prior to the hyena chase music at the end. I was asking if the demo is this arrangement or not.
The crying has been shortened slightly. And I’m guessing that’s whats spilling over into the beginning of the next track.
Yeah, it’s gapless. There’s a bigger gap between the two in the film so these sessions could be used if you prefer to have that gap.
Somebody smarter than me can pick apart the songs when the album comes out. Hyenas In The Pride Lands has a few seconds of silence at the end that isn’t in the album.
Probably because it goes into I Just Can’t Wait To Be King, I’d assume. It’s starting to look like these sessions aren’t entirely redundant if you want to make an ‘ultimate’ set.
Track 2 has a few seconds of silence that was removed from the Legacy Collection. In Track 3, the Legacy Collection version has a short Busa medley that can be heard about a minute in that’s not in the other rip.
Sort of like this? (These were covers I did way back in the day).

Speaking of which, is something like this version of Scar’s Dinner in this release?
I know what you mean, but I would buy it either way. Whether it’s posted earlier than the release date or whether it’s posted after..
Or perhaps that should be eBay? :p
I have it and I’ll be uploading it in Mp3. Its going to spread anyway.
I don’t think it is, but if you post the demo you’re talking about, I can compare them for you.

The Busa placement is sort of like that, yeah. Not sure what you’re asking for with Scar’s Dinner. The version in the album is longer than that.
Who the hell comes on the shrine to say, well I have it, but because I have this higher conscious I am not going to upload it. Piss off you wiener.
I have it and I’ll be uploading it in Mp3. Its going to spread anyway.
I realize that this is a forum largely made for pirating, but I just don’t have the conscious to post something before it’s official release date. (The fact that this is 20 year old music and Disney themselves were the ones to sell it to me early notwithstanding.) If no one else posts it here by the release date, I will. If you decide to post it, to each his own. I just want to see this album sell a lot of copies so that Disney can consider making more of these for their other animated films. (I would love to see Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast get this treatment.)
I understand what you mean, but some people aren’t going to buy it regardless of when it’s leaked. They know it’s going to be leaked at some point, so why purchase it? I disagree with that sentiment because if everybody just illegally downloaded the music, then labels would go out of business and we wouldn’t have any music at all, except for session leaks and boots which are usually poorer quality compared to an official release. Still, I appreciate you providing all the information you can about this release. It’s nice to have a sneak preview without hearing the album itself.
This is exactly how I feel. You are a diamond in the rough.
Check your PMs soon.

I expected Scar’s Dinner to be longer, what I’m asking if there’s a section that’s like the mockup I made in the score.

I wholeheartedly agree with this view, but I gotta agree with this view too:

There is no chance that Disney is going to go out of business anytime soon. They’re one of the biggest corporations on the planet.
I am not passing judgement on anyone for their decisions on whether to share the album or not. It just gives me something to look forward to the next week or so, but lets not kid ourselves. People have already made up their minds on whether they are going to buy this or not. They either want to own the physical copy or they’ll just wait until it’s shared.

Exactly. I prefer to pay for the material and own a legitimate copy. Others aren’t so picky, and others are just stingy. To use an appropriate quote: it’s the circle of life. into the storm himself said that he has it already and will be posting it. That’s great for an early preview to tie me up until my copy arrives.
Another thing to make out is this is NOT an early leak, as it was officially sold by Disney themselves. An early leak is something that unofficially appears prior to the official release date (IE if it appeared on here the day Disney announced it). It counts as an early release.
And then what would Disney have for Johnny Depp to do? Oh, I know, they’d probably get him to voice in the upcoming Lion King… err, Lion Guard TV show that’s coming out next year.
I haven’t heard anything about this. What is it?
Disney Junior Plans Preschool Series Based on ?The Lion King? (Exclusive) – Speakeasy – WSJ (http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2014/06/09/disney-junior-plans-preschool-animated-series-based-on-the-lion-king/)
Wasn’t the Lion King sequel already about a child of Simba? Is this meant to be some kind of reboot that erases that movie?
“It’s kind of like ‘The Lion King’ meets ‘The Avengers,’” said Disney Junior general manager Nancy Kanter.
This sounds absolutely ridiculous, but to be fair I’m not their target audience. I’m sure kids will enjoy it.
No idea. It’s got the Kiara fans up in arms for sure. And I think the Kopa fans too.
This sounds absolutely ridiculous, but to be fair I’m not their target audience. I’m sure kids will enjoy it.
There’s a petition online for The Lion King IV… no doubt this news will have a lukewarm response from them. Most of us want a movie that is of similar tone to the first.
There’s the Alice in Wonderland sequel… and I’m sure they’ll squeeze a few sequels out of Lone Ranger.

Oh, yes, more than likely. He seems to be their go-to-guy for live-action roles.

That’s true. My comment was directed more towards the smaller labels such as Intrada, La-La Land, who wouldn’t survive if everyone was pirating their releases instead of purchasing them.
Absolutely true.
I have it and I’ll be uploading it in Mp3. Its going to spread anyway.
This happening?
Google is your friend… or eBay. ๐
My own quote back at me :p
Nah, I was merely curious. Think of it as waiting for the jab you’re dreading, only perhaps the needle broke and the doctor dropped dead. I can wait the two weeks.
In other words, I’m daring into the storm into posting it, because I’m not sure he actually will.
That is most likely coming from the ending of the song that comes before this cue. i.e. the song crossfades to the score track.
I’d assume that is correct: most of the track times largely match what we already have with this newer leak. Certain cues were actually edited for the film anyways (The Rightful King, for example, had a few microedits in the film).
EDIT: My, that artwork for Scar is hideous.
In other news… well, there is no other news really :p Other than another RCP composer, Christopher Willis, will be doing Lion Guard, if anybody’s interested. No idea what it’s going to sound like, though.
The Lion King Legacy Collection is our dream….. The dream is real
Can you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post it when you get it??
Of course! Unless someone beats me to it of course…
Cool! Being in the UK, I have to wait until 7 July (minimum) so it’ll be awesome to hear this beforehand.
I hope this set and the other sets planned for late 2014 and 2015 sell well so they’ll release more in 2016 and beyond.
If they sell well, I’m hoping it convinces Disney to branch out to franchises they’ve purchased, specifically Star Wars and the Avengers scores.
Wait….did I miss something? When did Disney acquire the right’s to Sony’s Spider-Man?
I got my thinking mixed up. I was thinking of The Avengers and for some reason typed Spidey… still, it’d be nice to have those complete too.
Ohhhh ok. I was like "wait a second, did Disney just buy even more properties?!?!" haha
Wouldn’t be too surprised if they did so in the near future. I hear talk they want to buy Studio Ghibli.
Disney must have plans to try and aquire spider man now rjey have meet and greet with him at disneyland paris studios! ๐
I can’t help but have the same feeling as both of you. Disney is slowly taking over the world, and they must be stopped. Someone send The Terminator back in time to take care of this mess
But seriously i had heard they wanted to do talks with sony about getting spidy in avengers maybe 3 or whatever.
There’s no room for Spider-Man in The Avengers. Kim Kardashian is more eligible than Spidey
I think Sony has exclusive rights of the Star Wars scores until 2019. So, it won’t happen before then unless if Disney creates some sort of deal with Sony or if Sony does it (not likely except for a reissue).
Sony also has the rights to Star Trek The Motion Picture’s score. That did not stop them teaming up with LaLaLand Records to release the Limited Edition.
Okay, so from what I gather, we shouldn’t completely throw these sessions out. There is one unique track to them, and that’s 1M3/2M3. I’ve already started organizing my own edit of the material (with a third disc that contains the original album)
I don’t think so. The CDs in the Legacy Collection will be released in the US only as far as I know.
Money for pre-orders of this has started coming out of accounts (at last count, my copy is ???14.61 plus ???1 for a non-sterling transaction).
today is the big day ๐

Really? You can buy it off Amazon UK (though I bought mine from Amazon US as it turns out a couple of quid cheaper). I know it was up on some EU stores then got taken down though.
As for a share… give it time. It’s still early morning in the US.
I asked some of my local music stores, where I get some of my pre-orders, and they had no idea this was coming out. Of course, the bigger problem in my country is that a Soundtrack is a cd full of vocal tracks, and this we have here is something that is incredibly ignored and it’s not considered "music". It is even hard to even get a soundtrack with people with this level ignorance-
I got my Angels & Demons soundtrack, by luck.
Then again, I always have a problem thinking of ggctuk’s UK as Europe /S
?
The UK is in Europe.
Portugal.
Although it is in Europe, it acts more like, not in the world, when music scores are considered NOT music. The Stupid ASS country I live in.
^no, it’s within Mars XD
I would be better served in Mars, any day.
Very strange. It should appear on your store, then, unless there’s a stock issue.
Obviously not, I had to Google it. Silly me :p
Like I said. Scores are not considered music in my country. This is the low level of education people have in my country, claiming lady gaga-bitch is real music.
You have no idea what pain and how much I have to do to be able to have a SCORE, a soundtrack from a movie. Be it hanz zimmer or danny elfman, any one.
It should, yes it should…. but the moment I walk in a music store, and ask for a new soundtrack of hanz zimmer and the OWNER is like, "Who is that? a New Shit Nigga rapper!!!"
yes, that happen years ago, and I was like "noooo. it’s filme score composer", and the guy said, "what is a composer",… and then I wanted to stab the guy in his face.
I only have 2 reliable music stores in all of my country, which I always keep e-mailing them for some news they might have or special editions they might have, and usually they are quite professional on their work. But they said they had no idea about this release, but they would keep an eye on it.

Ah, that’s stupid. Over here, we have HMV and all stores, no matter how small they are, have a section for films and shows.
FNAC is the only store that I MIGHT be able to find some film scores, but sometimes they are too expensive, because they put the price mixed with the shipping of the due items. It’s more then stupid, and paying 50euros for a cd, a normal edition with 45 minutes of length is just outrageous.
I was lucky to find some scores I wanted in cheap price, but because they are the only ones bringing certain items, like joe hisashi musical albums, they tend suck your wallet. They must think our wallets are all the same. AKA -> Hermione’s Bag!!!
I’ll rip and up it here as soon as I get it! Who needs to shower anyways? ๐

This was what was NOT on scorepranos’ post. It is a true alternate, though it doesn’t seem to have been finished as at the end some of the demo elements remain, mainly the pan flute.

Now THAT’s dedication.
I still prefer the Rivkin mixes to the Legacy Edition, but I wish to edit in the revisions, and all I have is the 320’s.
Lol
This was actually done some time ago and I’ve pretty much retired myself from this score now. My most wanted score is now Desplat’s Godzilla.

That’s pretty awesome. Although, there is one tiny noticeable difference in the film and Legacy set’s versions compared to the album/sessions for Can You Feel The Love Tonight. Right after Timon sings his part at the beginning of the song, there’s some kind of flute instrumentation during the transition to the female singer. In the film/Legacy mixes, it plays twice, whereas in the album/sessions, it just occurs once.
Nice spot! The album uses a completely different flute there, suggesting the film and Legacy versions use a loop. Edited the spreadsheet accordingly.
Thnak you in advance!

In my opinion you have to choose the two versions because there is good in both. for example: Hakuna Matata (Legacy version) is more complete.
and some demos (only available on TLK Legacy) are used in the movie ๐

BOOM (LION KING CUE)
KING OF THE JUNGLE
SCARS LIE
UNEXPECTED FRIENDS
YOU NEARLY DIED (LION KING CUE)
I’m assuming for the most part these are just alternative titles for certain pieces. I have no idea what "Boom", "King Of The Jungle" or "Unexpected Friends" are, but I suspect these new ones otherwise match up as follows:
Scar’s Lie = 5M12A
You Nearly Died = 5M12B
would anyone be able to re-up this in FLAC please? ๐

Alright, thank you…
Thank you so much!!!!
By the way, this sounds better than any "official" CD mastered to death by Disney. Go figure.
This even sounds better than the 7.1-crap Blu-ray.
This link isn’t working for me. ;–;
The file refuses to be downloaded. Please, if anyone still has this in flac, can you please reupload to a simpler medium like mega.nz or mediafire? ;_; please 😢

Preferences aside, The Legacy Collection version of The Lion King, while boosted rather badly in quite a few places, is the score as it should have been. It’s how it was written, without any of Jay Rifkin replacing sections of the score with the demo elements.
I might also mention that in this case, Disney did not have anything to do with the actual presentation of this set or its mixing or mastering. That was all Hans Zimmer and Alan Meyerson. Zimmer took the cues from his own master tapes, IIRC, as opposed to Disney’s (which is why the demos are in such a state – he doesn’t generally keep demos once they served their purpose and so had to track down second-generation demo tapes)
All the flac links are dead.
Could somebody please re-up the flac version of the recording sessions?
I wonder what differences does this set have compared with the legacy collection release done five years ago. If it’s better than that, then I’d love to have this in flac!!! Many thanks!!!

Could somebody please re-up this in FLAC?

Thank you! The Legacy Collecion set is still my preferred version of this score, but this release also has some interesting elements to it. Been looking for a FLAC copy for a while now.
This is kinda irrelevant, but, does someone have the Lion King 1 1⁄2 ost? I’ve been looking for it every where, but, can’t find any full downloads for it.
I’ve also been looking for this one. The only link I found around here is dead.
The link quoted in the post just above yours still works.
ok thank u
