I’d be very surprised if the film mix ever surfaced anywhere. What happens is they record the music and send all the files to the editing room. The audio mixers, using the audio stems, are able to change the music the way they think best works for the movie. So even though a lot of people might have the opportunity to grab the sessions themselves, only the editors have access to these special film mixes.

So when dealing with film mixes it’s often best to see what can be ripped from the DVD/Blu-ray, holding out for a leak is completely out of the question.

Sometimes new soundtrack releases of older films might have film mixes lifted directly from the stems, but those are few and far between.

Michael Keaton will always be Batman to me, but TDK trilogy is very entertaining. Most people love it, some people hate it, some think they’re just "ok". It makes me sad though, thinking you’ve never heard the scores for them. Some of modern Zimmer’s best.

There’s an easy way to figure out if something’s transcoded or not: Spek (http://spek.cc/)! Simple but effective.

Drag-and-drop your music file in there and check the spectograms to see what the quality is. If you look at the cutoff lines, generally:

16 kHz: 128kbps
Anything in between: 192 – 256 kbps
20 kHz: 320kbps
Above 20 kHz: usually lossless

Well, I realized just now that I took my "You’re Gonna Love Me" from the Expanded Score, not the complete score. I’ve recaptured it from the complete version, as well as some others…

All of those tracks look like true 320 except for "I’m Not A Hero", which has an obvious cutoff line at ~16 kHz (i.e., it’s 128kbps)

In any case, my spectrograms look sooo much better than yours; my files are definitely lossless.

I’ll post it sometime today if I can.

What I can say is that the ChiefDundee blog is pretty great. If he says FLAC, you can believe him 😉
About the bootlegs, there are bootlegs as elsewhere and this is better than nothing.
Furthermore he offers systematically full covers and these links are frequently updated. How is it possible to be disappointed with this. Personally I am fully satisfied with his blog.

I don’t know what to make of Le Chief Dundee’s editions of the Batman scores. I can’t tell the difference between lossy and lossless. The versions do seem to good to be true. I at least think the Begins version is legit, due to it being referred to as expanded, and having the 3CD sessions being around helps.

I don’t think it’s entirely legit (it uses a supposed fake / custom edit of the sessions), but there you take it.
