Friday the 13th: The Ultimate Compilation – Harry Manfredini and Sean Cunningham – FEARnet (http://www.fearnet.com/videos/b24302_friday_13th_ultimate_compilation_harry.html )
Composer Harry Manfredini and Sean Cunningham speak with FEARnet about the music and legacy of Friday the 13th. Friday the 13th: The Ultimate Compilation is available on iTunes on October 25, 2011.
The 40 minute Friday the 13th: The Ultimate Compilation features music from the Friday the 13th films compiled by Harry Manfredini and Sean Cunningham. Says Manfredini: "I am so excited about the new CD available for download through Lionsgate Records and Fearnet.com. I have put together some of the most requested excerpts from the first six of the Friday the 13th scores. The collection includes the Diner Song’ which is probably the most requested of all!
I haven’t been able to afford to pick up the 40 minute compilation off iTunes yet — does anyone else have it? — but I’m really hoping to be able to pick up the 6 disc set in January before it sells out.
I thought it’d be nice to have a thread set up in preparation. I’m terribly excited. Who else is looking forward to this?
1300 will sell out fast i guess …

Uploading now, will post once it’s done.
I agree – but damn, only 1300 copies? I will still do whatever I can to get one!!
NICE! I love ordering stuff from them – almost always get some sort of bonus. Just received my signed copy of Fright Night from them – the surprise was that the director, Tom Holland also signed the booklet along with Brad Fiedel!
Yeah, I don’t even think they (La La Land) know how much to charge for it yet from what I’ve read.
Thanks for the link to the pre-release compilation, guvnagrover. Can’t wait to hear how the Jason Lives tracks sound!

Actually, according to MV over on the FSM message board, these aren’t re-recordings, they’re the original recordings. Very cool indeed!
It’s a cool time to be a Friday the 13th fan. I never thought this set would actually happen!
I hope they announce the price soon, so I can start setting aside the odd copper for it. I got lucky with the Indiana Jones set, I got it for Christmas in 2008 (or was it 2009? Time is a funny thing!) but I’ve just missed the window on this release.
friday the 13th 40 minutes
friday the 13th part 2 41 minutes
friday the 13th 3D 57 minutes
friday the 13th part 4 the final chapter 54 minutes
friday the 13th part 5 a new beginning 44 minutes
Jason lives friday the 13th part 6 70 minutes
I just grab it off the net like a day or two after it’s release as usual. This nonsense with limiting their releases to such a tiny number just makes it near impossible for most to actually enjoy these scores. It’s a shame too. This is a strange time for soundtrack fans – more full scores are being released than ever before, but in such limited quantities that downloading is often the only way to actually ever hear them. I made the jump for The Black Hole when it came out earlier, out of fear that it would sell out. But I should be able to save up for this and purchase it in 6 months or a year and still know it will be available. These limited releases really just favor those with loads of disposable income.
Chances are I’ll get to hear the music regardless of what happens with the limited stock, but I hate the thought of not owning it properly. I wish they’d do at least 3000 copies, like they do with most of their limited releases.
La-La Land Records presents FRIDAY THE 13TH: PARTS I-VI: LIMITED EDITION, a 6-CD BOX SET of acclaimed composer Harry Manfredini’s (HOUSE I-IV, SWAMP THING, JASON X, DEEPSTAR SIX) original scores to the Paramount Pictures iconic feature films FRIDAY THE 13TH: PARTS I-VI. This comprehensive box set showcases some of the most chilling, daring and skillfully orchestrated film music ever composed for the genre. The remastered scores for the first six FRIDAY THE 13TH films are presented here – featuring more than 5 full hours of music, much of it previously not available in any official format and most of it exclusive to this special release. Also included – a 40-Page booklet, packed with exclusive liner notes by film music writer Brian Satterwhite that drag you deeper into the music of Camp Crystal Lake and the composer who empowered the unstoppable horror that dwells there, Jason Voorhees. Both the booklet and the six CDs are housed in a frightfully attractive hard-cover slipcase. This is a limited edition of 1300 units.
Produced by Harry Manfredini, Neil S. Bulk, and MV Gerhard and mastered by James Nelson, the music from the original six FRIDAY films is finally here for fright fans and film music enthusiasts alike!
ABOUT THIS RELEASE: Elements once thought lost were located at Paramount Pictures and at the composer’s home. Parts 1 -5 were pulled from Paramount’s original music stems, assembled by Neil S Bulk and mastered by James Nelson under composer Harry Manfredini’s supervision. Part 6 will sound the best of all. Luckily, those original tapes were still in the composer’s possession. He and James Nelson remixed and mastered directly from his original source.
For those of you wondering about Parts 3 and 4, we decided the best representation of these scores is to include ALL the music featured in both films, including those cues recycled from Parts 1 and 2. The original music editor did such a great job stitching together all these tiny cues into longer cues that he essentially created an entirely NEW score for these films.

I pre-ordered it from them as well…along with Harry Manfredini, apparently Adrienne King (Alice, F13 pt 1), Tom McLaughlin and his wife (director F13 VI / female counselor who drove the VW bug) will also be signing copies; haven’t heard if anyone else will be there to sign copies. Decided to order a second set, this time from LaLaLand tonight – the Dark Del copy will already be opened, whereas the LLL will be sealed. The samples sound great at the LLL site.
I agree that people should order this set; however, last I read, LLL was down to less than 100 copies. I think there may still be some available at other online retail sites.
I ordered it from Dark Del for the same exact reason – wasn’t sure if the copies that LLL were going to sell out fast, so I wanted to guarantee myself a copy. Also, it’s a bonus to have all of the signatures! Cannot wait to get this set…
Out of interest, Herbert, have you ever ordered something from Dark Delicacies before? Do you know about how long it’ll take for the thing to arrive once it ships?

I have ordered from them before; gotten Brad Fiedel’s signature on the Terminator 2 soundtrack and Fright Night along with some other composer’s signatures on their respective titles. Usually, it depends on when they ship it. Since the signing is tomorrow at 2pm, I doubt they mail them out then. Also, Monday is a holiday, so I don’t think the post office is open then. So if they mail it out next Tuesday, it would usually take 2 – 3 days to get to me. They are pretty fast and reliable, that’s why I buy from them often.
Man, that went fast. I’m glad I snagged one! Given the circumstances — you know, it being out of print already! — if someone else hasn’t managed it, I’ll be more than happy to share it here when I get.
Mine shipped yesterday.

Screen Archives entertainment is still offering one per customer.
The movie music store is also selling copies.
Actually, what I’m reading over at the Film Score forum is that Dark Del is including a second copy of the booklet with Manfredini’s signature, because there were so many pre-orders they didn’t have the time to open them all and have Manfredini sign, so some of the sets from Dark Del will be un-opened.
Maybe it does mean a blu ray release. Usually things like this are done to promote something. Like BTTF 1 was re-released in theaters & it was done to promote the blu ray releases so they will be bought. Yes people who love it would buy the set regardless. It’s newer fans the re-release in theaters was trying to attract.
So perhaps the same concept goes for this? We’ll see if that’s true or not. I didn’t really like any of the films after 6 though. They weren’t as good especially Jason X or the remake. X may not have been part of the original film series. But it’s the 10th in the Friday series as a whole. In other words, if you look up Friday The 13th, you’ll see Jason X as 10. Not sure of the remake would be on the list though.
Why might it not be part of the series? It’s as much a part as Jason Goes to Hell or Jason Takes Manhattan, which both depart somewhat from the formula of those before them. Some people think of the first four as a set, which I think is a fair assessment, but as the franchise goes, they’re all in it.
Also if I recall Manfredini was said Jason X was pretty much the complete score. He said the 5 or 6 minutes of music that was missing was written by someone else.
What I was getting at is some people think of it as being part of the series while others don’t. I personally do think it is part of the Friday series as a whole as in maybe the entire film franchise for the same reason you said.
I just think it started to slowly lose it’s steam after 6.
Not to start a debate here but while I don’t feel this way, I think some people get annoyed that they just don’t die, take a lot of punishment to get taken down yet in some instances they get up a short time later and aside from a few killers that do, most don’t talk. Jason grunts or whatever you wanna call it when he’s hit. Other than that, he’s silent. Myers (my personal favorite) touches himself wherever he was stabbed (example: If he’s stabbed in the chest with a sharp object like a knife, he’ll touch his chest to show that he’s hurt, but he won’t grunt). It’s like they’re human, but at the same time, not so human and I think it bothers some people cause they’re just like die already or I thought he died in this/that film or oh God does these people ever f’in die??!!!
Also don’t wanna start a debate about this here, but as stated earlier, Myers is my personal favorite killer with Halloween being my personal favorite series. Friday is a bit of a joke sometimes like eyes popping out and stuff, just isn’t necessary to me. No other horror film (with an iconic killer) I’ve seen has such effects cause in a horror film, they’re not needed and I think people who are fans of this genre are more attentive to how the killer kills or hunts/stalks his prey, not the special effects. Just my opinion.
Direx
Here’s my opinions:
1 was good. Only bad thing: Jason himself wasn’t in it at all except a flashback of him drowning. It would have been better if after the last battle, they showed him rising up or by having bubbles in the lake or have the final camera shot showing his eyes open….something to tease that he’s alive or something like that.
2 was a great movie. I especially liked how she tried to trick Jason into thinking she was his mother. That was smart & by the same Jason found out it was a trick, her bf came.
3 is iconic or legendary cause this is where he acquired his famous hockey mask. I think this is the one where the final fight is in a barn.
My favorite is Part 6. It just had everything you’d wanna see in a Friday film. Or at least everything I’d wanna see hence why it’s my favorite.
Myers & Jason are known for their masks as well. While I love the masks, I never saw the need for them. They never die, never talk. So what’s the point in hiding your face, you know? Especially Myers as he’s just a human face unlike Jason. No complaints though.

When they made part 1 it was never intended to be the begining of a a horror franchise, the movie is about a mother driven so crazy by the death of her only son years earlier that she gets revenge on any all camp counslers of crystal lake for no other reason than that it was crystal lakes camp counslers not paying attention that led to her sons death, when they found out the movie was as popular as it was and the studio demanded a sequel they thought back to the Jason Dream sequence at the end of part 1 and thought ok, lets go ahead and have Jason be the killer now.
Jason appearing at the end of the friday the 13th was originally only meant to be a stress induced dream that Alice has after killing Mrs Vorhees.
Oh and 6 was my favorite as well to thanks in large part to Jennifer Cooke
Boring stuff aside, I like Friday the 13th Parts 1 through 4, but my personal favorite is Jason Lives.

Oh I didn’t know it wasn’t intended to be a franchise. That explains it. However, maybe using today’s technology they could’ve had something along what I proposed as an alternate ending? It would’ve made a worthy extra.
@MrGhostFace: Funny in what way? Funny in what parts of the film?
I don’t know why, but whenever I think of Jason Lives, aside from the Tommy vs Jason in the lake (the last fight scene), especially all the parts where Jason was under water, the only other scene that comes to my mind the most is Jason entering the cabin where the girl sees him and starts saying a prayer It spoke to me when I first saw it. Maybe that’s why.

You have to watch the film in the context of when it was made. The Jason backstory was just the setup. Jason was just a victim and his death made the mother snap. She implies a supernatural connection to her dead son, but it was more likely that the voice inside her head was psychological. Actually, the Ki Ki Ki Ma Ma Ma, often misquoted as Ch Chi Chi or something similar, was meant to signify that voice inside her head, telling her to kill. The last scene was a nightmare, based on her traumatic experience.
The movie had a relatively small budget, obviously, and it easily made its money back, becoming a hit. So obviously a sequel was coming. Now they had a movie without a killer. What to do? They re-used the Jason backstory. Now Jason really was going after camp counselors. Like what was considered for the Halloween series, when the third film was being considered, they thought about releasing a film every year with a different story. Obviously, this never happened. And they kept with Jason. At this point, he wore a sack on his head. The hockey mask was happenstance. At some point during pre-production or early production for the third film, they tested with using a mask on , and someone just happened to have hockey gear with them. It was actually too small, so when they extended it when they created the molds, added a few defining features, and it stuck with the character ever since, so much so that people forget that Jason wasn’t in the first film (besides the dream) and wore a sack in the second.
So a tease to the character in the first film wasn’t necessary because he wasn’t intended to become a major player at that point. (Nor should one be added, Star Wars-style)
Try watching it again with an appreciation of black comedy, and you should get it. You can’t be telling me a movie that spoofs James Bond in its title sequence is taking itself seriously…
No, Part 6 definitely does not take itself too seriously. My wife actually said she didn’t know which was worse, the sheriff’s dialogue, or his over-the-top acting. (Not that any of the acting was acadamy-award-winning. lol) One of my favorite bad lines – "Don’t test me, Junior, or I will repaint this office with your brains."
One other thing that bugged me in Part 6 is that, especially after Part 5, there is no way in hell that Tommy would have Jason’s mask from Final Chapter. Oh well. Best not to be nitpicky with the classics. 🙂

And you simply cannot forget this classic exchange from Part 5:
Sheriff Cal Tucker: Morning, Ethel. My, don’t you look lovely today.
Ethel Hubbard: Horse shit! Now, Sheriff, you better hear me, and hear me good. I want this looney bin closed down. You hearin’ me fella? Now these kids ain’t nothing but trouble. They don’t respect other’s property, and they’re all crazy!
Junior Hubbard: You tell ’em Ma! Ha hah.
Sheriff Cal Tucker: Ethel, these kids weren’t doing…
Ethel Hubbard: Doing? Doing? You think I don’t know what those two perverts were doing in my yard?
Junior Hubbard: Say it like you mean it, Ma!
Ethel Hubbard: Would you shut the fuck up?
[the kids laugh for a minute]
Ethel Hubbard: Now, I’m gonna tell all of ya, you mark my words, the next little bastard that comes near my farm, I’m gonn’ blow your fuckin’ brains out, you hear me?
[Tucker approaches]
Ethel Hubbard: Don’t you come near me, Sheriff, I’m warnin’ ya! I got a bomb on me. I swear to ya. You make one move toward me I’m gonna blow us all up. Start the engines, Junior!
[gets on motorbike]
Ethel Hubbard: That’s it. My final words.
[gives them the finger as they drive off]
With regarding to selling, not sure what to tell you. You could strike now while everyone’s still clamoring for a copy, or you could wait until it’s completely sold out everywhere and try to sell then.
I am curious and hopeful as to when this will surface here though. Not impatient, just looking forward to it. 🙂
Cannot wait for this to show up here. 🙂
I’ve never felt the desire to see any of the sequels. I get really squeamish, so most slasher type films are out of bounds for me. Although I have seen the original Friday, Halloween, and Nightmare on Elm Street.

The music varies thematically depending on film, and a lot of music from three and four is composed of re-edited music from the first two films.

Heey, did you just give away your age here babydoll?? I actually thought you were in your early 20s something…
Yeah, Just rewatched. I get it. I actually appreciate all film genres for what they bring. That includes any form or kind of comedy. Whether I like all/some of them or not or find them funny, that’s a whole different story. I did not see Bond do didn’t know it was a spoof. But after seeing Bond on Blu Ray (friend has it) & then rewatching Friday, I get it. And no I can’t say a movie that spoofs James Bond in its title sequence is taking itself seriously.
Well There is this little thing I like to call personal opinons, so just cause YOU happen to think something is crappy doesnt mean everyone is will.
There are alot of people out here probably even right on this thread who would disagree with your statement.

You are right. I am glad opinions are different. If everyone had the same, life would be very boring! Guess my statement was pretty opinionated. Personally, I think after the Final Chapter, the series was done. But, again, just my opinion.
Now, let’s hope I do not get started on all the "remakes." Argh!

Oh absolutely! I have the parts 1-3 album that was released in the 80s, and so many versions of "full" score (just dvd / bluray rips with sound fx…which don’t get me wrong they are better than nothing at all), but it will be great to have the 1-6 music…too bad they sold out so fast and a lot of us are left out to dry on it. Hopefully it will post on here some day. Excellent music….very nostalgic of childhood memories.
The discs do but the cases themselves are in those 90s style double jewel case width cases with the first 3 in one case and the other 3 in the second case.
There are alot of people out here probably even right on this thread who would disagree with your statement.
Yep. Include me there. Actually include everyone. That is everyone who knows anything about opinions and cares enough to respect the opinions of others. Of all the horror icon killer film series, this is my favorite to least list based on killer & how he kills cause aside from that, except for some things, not much else to see overall IMO. Again I said overall and my opinion):
Halloween – In addition to the first, I pretty much like them all with Resurrection being my least favorite. I don’t count 3 at all because….well if you’ve seen it, you’ll know why. The remakes were good. The first remake was better than the second though.
Friday/Hellraiser/Texas Chainsaw
Friday – It’s not that I never liked the first one. It’s just before, never saw why Jason never made an appearance of some kind in the end till I was told it wasn’t intended to be a franchise. Since knowing that, I’m ok with Jason not being there. Parts 1-6 for me with 2, 3, and 6 being my most favorites.
Hellraiser – Just 1 & 2. 1 and little more since Pinhead and his Cenobites get killed in the second. In fact, I only watched the second till they were killed and then when they came back. Skipped the rest. First one, I watched the entire thing. But it really picks up when Pinhead arrives on the scene.
Texas Chainsaw – I actually liked the prequel. The 2003 remake sucked. Wouldn’t be fair to give an opinion on the originals cause it’s been a LONG time so if I were to see them again and I probably will sometime, my opinions has maybe changed since I last saw them.
Elm Street/Child’s Play
Child’s Play – Just 1 & 2. At first, I liked 2 slightly better. But as time goes on, I generally do not like one over the other. Trivia: Catherine Hicks known for 7th Heaven is part of the cast for the first and I think the second one too.
Elm Street – Remake sucked. All my friends walked out of the theater. Yep. That bad. Glad I didn’t pay for that. The originals….same as Texas Chainsaw originals. I do remember liking the first Elm Street though. Trivia: First Elm Street is Johnny Depp’s first film!!!
cheers

Remember how long people waited for LLL’s 1989 & Returns to be uploaded here? I’d imagine we’d have to wait near the same length of time, exact same length of time, or over that length of time. Personally, I would not be surprised of we had to wait longer as everyone’s saying this is sold out. I remember some saying Returns was sold out, but not to the extent of this. I’m sure someone has gotten it by now and is either working on getting it uploaded or will work on it shortly. Good things come to those who patiently wait. I just hope it’s lossless format.
I’m actually kind of glad that this has completely sold out. That way, LLL and the other labels have all gotten their money. Hopefully this shows up in the near-future. And once again, an advance thank you to whoever uploads this little treasure. 🙂
Good point. More money may mean releases for other stuff too. People have wanted complete/expanded scores released for B&R, which I wouldn’t mind. But I rather more see a release for T2, Batman Begins (BB especially goes for End Creds & the music that plays while Wayne goes down the elevator shaft & opens the closet.). I don’t know of LLL can release anymore WB stuff like Superman TAS, Batman TAS, JL/JLU, but if so, I’d like to see that. An X-Men (Sentinel theme my favorite)/Spiderman TAS would be most welcome as well as Transformers (80s, Beast Wars.) And there are many others.
I actually wanna see something for American Psycho (2000) only for trailer versions of the music they used – instrumentals for Tom’s Diner & some Rammstein song (few seconds cause that’s how long it lasted in the trailers hence trailer version tracks) although I’m ok will full instrumental tracks for these songs too. Don’t think there’s much demand for it so probably won’t happen.
But HUGE demand for others named above so hopeful they’re released in the future.
I just wanted everyone to know that I do support LLL. I did download them first to see what was included. But after that, I did buy (off Amazon so LLL get profit or when I could afford to, from LLL themselves) Batman 1966/1989/Returns/Forever, BTTF. I am also now looking for Friday cause since someone posted the tracks, don’t need to wait for an upload anymore. If one is up though, I will download to see how it sounds & if it’s in order though LLL are usually good with that stuff.
You’re a lucky man. I wish I would have ordered it when I had the bloody chance to.
I don’t want to seems as though I’m pressuring you, but if I could pressure you for a moment: would you mind uploading the set? I was planning on doing it myself when it arrives, but… well, I’d like to hear the ruddy thing now!

Thanks! Hope you get yours by the weekend.
I’m working on the ups now – it will take a bit of time.
Don’t worry. They got their revenge.
A collective called Anonymous shut down the FBI and justice.edu websites in obvious retaliation. Here’s the story: Anonymous in revenge attack for MegaUpload shutdown | FT Tech Hub | FTtechhub – Industry analysis (http://blogs.ft.com/fttechhub/2012/01/anonymous-megaupload-ddos/)
Oh I thought it was the other way around. In other words, MU shut down because of the FBI & justice.edu thing. Well while I’m glad, still doesn’t resurrect (It’s a Jason thread so thought that would be a good word here lol) MU, a site many including me thought was the best file sharing server site. Only a matter of time before the others share MU’s unfortunate, tragic fate.
Did this happen to anyone else? Even better, did anyone get two sets of parts 1-3? Wanna trade? haha. Damn it.

Watch your Language please, MV at LaLaLand is very good about fixing problems 🙂
Yes, LLL was great about fixing the problem. They sent me the replacement discs immediately after they got my message – which by the way, was different than the one I posted here, haha 🙂
Sorry again folks.

Oops, sorry about the language. I’m new to the site and it was dumb of me to presume.
