Drawing Contest

Alright, I guess anyone who visits AD noticed the other thread already. ^_^ Please read this carefully so you know the rules and all that.

1) Anyone who wants to can participate. (except the judges, ofcourse! :p)
2) Every contestant may send in one drawing. Material, style, and if it’s b/w or in color doesn’t matter.
3) The drawing HAS to be your own.
4) It may not be copied from an excisting picture. (Trust me, I WILL find out. :B)
5) NO image alterations or other digital art (wallpapers, sigs, photo enhancement, etc). Only hand-drawn (or wacom-tablet-drawn) art.

There will NOT be a "qualification round" or "novices" and "experts". We’re all equal here, hmkay? ^_^

There will be two catagories. Black/white and color. That means there will be two winners. In the end me might let those two compete if they wish, but we’ll see about that later. =P

You may send your work to me in PM (a link please ^^) or you can email it to me at [email protected]. Either as attachment or link.

I’ll create a page with all the art on it. The creator’s names will not be posted until the winner is announced. This is keep the judges from "playing favourites", even if not aware.

The deadline is August 31. After that, the judges will decide on the winners.

Keep it sketches only, after that you can have a sequel contest with the best coloring job. BTW, the coloring should only be digital IMO, since artwork IRL is difficult to scan due to size issues, and the scanner quality. Taking pictures is also an option, but thats not a good idea either.

Make it sketches only, and I’m game. 🙂

I know this may sound like a stupid question, but what limitations are there involving nudity??

Er.. Well, I don’t have any problems with nudity, and as you’re supposed to send the entries to me.. ^^;

If it’s too explicit, I just won’t display it openly on the webpage I will create, but only show it to the judges.. That is, if they’re willing to judge art with nudity on it? ^_^;
If they don’t, there’s not much I can do about it.. I’m not going to force people into something they don’t want to do. =O

Well im in, but I have one question. What about a monochrom image with a colour replacing white? or the black?

I like to do that, but technicaly it is colour…so?

Hm.. it is basically color, but it’s not *colored*. So.. I’m going to count that as b/w.
Only art that has color in it, not the lines, will go in the color catagory. ^^;

Whee~ I’m in it for sure! ^__^ But I’ll be in black and white pictures =P

And someone PMed me about the digital art thing. I meant to say that wallpapers and things like that aren’t allowed, because it’s a collage of excisting images, and not something someone *drew*.
So yes, digital coloring IS allowed. =P

this si proboly a no but i want to make sure anyway. will you be able to enter a 3D graphic for your piece? i’m not saying something like an abstract wallpaper, i mean like a proper render that has stucture and purpose.

Competing handdrawn art with digital pieces wouldn’t be fair. Also because it’s a totally different thing. =O

I don’t know how to work out which is the best colour one.

Oh, and Nymph, that is just Inked with Nicko. If it looks like I have shading it’s becaus I am messy and am usually sketching these when I am at work, thus have dirty hands.

I think this sort of thing will not only promote people to go and draw more, but will also give you ideas for the next pic.

Well, I for one hope that we have another contest, because it made me draw a pic that I enjoyed drawing.

I also think that there should be more specific categories……..

perhaps one for scenery, one for single characters/people, one for animals/monsters, one for machines/robots and one for abstract.

That way there is a lot more variety for people to try out. I know you could do whatever you want to do in the last contest, but this way it gives a little bit of direction and a place to start from.

This is of course, only my humble opinion, but I also think it’s hard when you’re told to draw something. Anything.

Well I for one think that we should have a contest every two months. One month for getting entries in, and one for judging! That way we can have lots of different categories, but not in the same contest. I think it’s quite taxing for the judges if you have to judge so many categories. So one a month, what do you think?

I think i’d enter if there were different catagories. But i suck either way! :p If abstract is up there I can use my paint program! 😀 I just can’t get enough of the line draw tool. It is sooooo cool!

If you go and make style catagories, there will be way too much. I think B/W and Color is okay enough..

How about themes? Like, Easter, Christmas, drama, happy stuff, Final Fantasy, dreams, fairytail-like (elfs, faeries, etc).. That sorta stuff. =O

Once every 3 or 4 months would be better.. And to give people more time to get their entries in, too. For example 1,5 or 2 months instead of just one.

Sports? I don’t think that’s a good theme.. For one, it’s hard to draw for probably most people around here, and two.. Not everyone likes it and will be able to draw something about it. =O

And besides, I think we should wait a bit until the next competition. About a month for sure.
