I am not familiar with this composer. Is any of the music orchestral? Are there any you could particularly recommend.

I would recommend "Ashiato Rhythm ~Haruka Shimotsuki works best~" and "Tindharia no Tane" if you’re new to Shimotsuki-san. On both albums she performs on all tracks (vocals, chorus) and for Tindharia she’s also the composer – arrangement is done by Noriyuki Iwadare (and you can tell that if you know Iwadare’s style).

And no, I wouldn’t classify her music as orchestral – it’s best described as ‘fantasy music’, check out Tindharia to know how that sounds.

Though Tindharia can be somewhat difficult to stomach for the newcomers to Shimotsuki’s music (especially because of it doubling as an storytelling album).
Maybe a better recommendation to start with would be Tsukioi no Toshi, Lip-Aura, or Yuragusora.

It’s my recommendation because it was _my_ first encounter with something both composer and performed by Shimotsuki-san — Tindharia was a blind purchase for me: I only knew that Noriyuki Iwadare had arranged the music, but I didn’t know anything about Shimotsuki back then. Needless to say I instantly fell in love with her voice 🙂

Of course your recommendation aquagon are also good.

Though I only said that because some of the vocal styles and ways in which the songs were composed are unusual and hard to listen to some (for example, Hikari no Oto and Mamoribito, which are some of my favorite songs of Tindharia, took a long while to grow on me, not to mention that I only began truly loving them after I understood what they were supposed to represent in the story of the album). However, at the end, it just depends on if the listener ends liking it or not.

Yeah, you’re completly right – but isn’t that the case with most of ‘new’ music? It takes some time to really value something which one’s ‘ear’ isn’t accustomed to.

I rememember having a hard time listening to the arranged Xenogears album CREID by Yasunori Mitsuda when I first fetched it from #gamemp3s (that was a _long_ time ago). The celtic style and the vocals were completly new to me and everything sounded too ‘strange’ at that time – however now I consider CREID one of my favorite albums.

Well, that doesn’t happen only with music: many new experiences always feel weird at first, but it depends on the people if they accept them as good or bad. That said, it can’t be said that one person has accepted something as good or bad without giving it an ample chance to see if it grows on one or not.

The download speed isn’t the biggest problem, but the constant timeouts and disconnects. I’m lucky that my download tool recovers from these gracefully.

1. While her birthday is well known, as far as I know, her age remains a secret.
2. Both. She releases both doujin works with several doujin groups as well as her own commercial albums.
3. Yes, she does.
4. I blame the internet. Also, I do buy works from my favorite artists (not Shimotsuki’s, though…)

I buy her releases, at least the ones that are widely available (hard to get the doujin albums). I’m the first one to make a preorder when she decides to make a third Tindharia album! *g*

Phew… it was quite a lot of work, but I’ve replaced most of the dead links and added a lot of the works that Shimotsuki released from the last year to now (Hoshizora Ensemble, the bonus disc for the Griotte no Nemurihime Manga vol.1, both of the Kasou Shoujo -Lip-Aura- discs, and Koboreru Suna no ARIA). I know there are a few releases missing in there, but I’ll take care of them later. Happy listening!

Ok, with this update, all of the missing links have been fixed, and I’ve also added some of Shimotsuki’s collaborations in other albums, as well as her works as part of kukui. Enjoy!

Could someone tell me where I can get the bonus disc from the "Tindharia no Tane Drama CD: Sorezore no Hanamatsuri + Bonus Music Disc" upload? In both versions that are listed for download, when I extract them I only get the " Sorezore no Hanamatsuri" CD and I don’t see a bonus disc.

It’s a mistake on the title: the Drama CD itself also contains a bonus song (Doko Demo Aru Ashita), but aside of the drama parts and it, the only other bonus thing it has is a manga that no one has scanned.

Ok, just added the bonus discs for the second volume and the novelization of Griotte no Nemurihime, as well as the recently released Tindharia no Kanade. Enjoy!
