It’s a lost cause. You don’t need to add the qualifier "Not trying to sound like a jerk." People are incapable of comprehending words. There is a minimum of three threads currently that are fairly active that are using this exact same setup. Read through codyap’s Battleship thread: Thread 113106. There are almost 9 whole pages of people unable to understand words.
You can tell them all you want: you can call them idiots, you can say "YOU NEED TO PM HIM" in all caps in the largest font possible, you can gather a collection of quotes and respond to each one of them….And none of it will have any effect. That may or may not be due to the apparently high success experienced by people who do in fact have a setup that requires other posters to post in the thread asking the OP to send them a link.
I remember this one time where a guy was trying to understand what was going on, and he just about had the setup of the thread spot on, but then he, himself, continued to ask "I haven’t received a PM yet. Can you send me a link?" I commented quite a lot in that thread, but then it got boring and I no longer make posts like this. It is useless, and pretty much the only thing you can do about it is think: "Boy, I’m glad I was gifted with the ability to follow directions."
