How did you rename the FFVII characters?

Dear readers, let us share our cherished names, which make it through the game instead of the default names. The names which carry our character, for the better or er… the worse of the experience of the game.

Let’s have fun!!

The first time I played the game (when I was 11), I renamed:

Cloud as ‘Julian’ (Well I’m playing his part am I not? 😀 )

Barret as ‘????’ (I have forgotten. It’s been 6 years)

Tifa as ‘Jennifer’

Aeris as ‘Flowerina’

Red XIII as ‘Red Fury’

Cait Sith as ‘Mick’

Cid as ‘Theodore’

I did not acquire Yuffie or Vincent.

The second time I played the game, (I had not finished the first game; I started from scratch) I renamed:

Aeris as ‘Irene’

Red XIII as ‘Rougeler’

The others were renamed the same as the first time I had played.

This time (presently), I’ve renamed them this way:

Cloud as ‘Julian’

Barret as ‘Bobby’

Tifa as ‘Jennifer’

Aeris left as default. (I think her name is beautiful so I didn’t want to change it).

Red XIII as ‘Red’

Cait Sith as ‘Nicholas’

Cid as default.

Yuffie as default.

Vincent as default.

So, what do you think? 😉

i kept them all default

except red xii which i named Nanaki for the sake of my sanity when i know his real name

its like in ffix; i restarted the whole game just so i could call her sara from the begging

I’m an amateur novelist and I nowadays always name the characters after people in my books or use their default names. But when I first started playing, I named them after LOTR or Simarillion characters.

Cloud: Amroth*
Tifa: Luthien*
Aeris: Arwen
Barret: Gimli
Red XIII: Shadowfax
Cait Sith: Gil-galad*
Yuffie: Eowyn
Cid: Eomer
Vincent: Denethor (what can I say? they remind me of each other in the way they mope)

*seen more in the Simarillion or Unfinished Tales than LOTR, though they are mentioned in LOTR.

I kept them the same because they are just names.

I usually kept them the same because I have a thing where things have to be the same, and perfect.

And neat.

Anyway, I read somewhere that if you name RedXIII as Nanaki originally, something interesting happens.

Nothing did.

And I went through the whole game with him like that.

It almost killed me.

However, I did go through that immature eight year old stage where I named;

Cloud = Bastard.
Barrett = Bitch.
Tifa = Sodapop.

The rest remained the same.

Then I did the whole;

Cloud = Vincent.
Barrett = Cid.
Tifa = Aeris.
Aeris = Yuffie.
RedXIII = Barrett.
Cait Sith = RedXIII.
Cid = Cait Sith.
Vincent = Cloud.
Yuffie = Tifa.

That was really fun.

I renamed Cloud to Tim, and Red XIII to Rufus after my ginger cat (This obviously got confusing as there is already a Rufus in the game!)

Left everything in default, but once i named Cloud GMoney

Cloud = Vincent.
Barrett = Cid.
Tifa = Aeris.
Aeris = Yuffie.
RedXIII = Barrett.
Cait Sith = RedXIII.
Cid = Cait Sith.
Vincent = Cloud.
Yuffie = Tifa.

If you name everyone Sephiroth, it’s also really confusing….XD

Also, if you name Cloud "God", then there’s this part where it goes–

Barret: "The planet’s dyin’, God!"
God: "I don’t care."

playing the beginning one random time I called Barret "Cinton", sounded alright, even if it was an l away from the most laid back presidency. didn’t keep the file..

Heh, credit to the original poster on Caves of Narshe. I also liked the idea of renaming Red XIII "that dog". It’s a shame that with newer RPGs we not only have to put up with Tidus laughing, Wakka BOOYA!ing and the shoddiness of Dragon Quest VIII; but we also lose the ability to do stuff like this with the names.

Unfortunately I don’t do it myself, I take very much the same approach to it as you, Ms Clu. I only registered and posted, which I never do, because your pic reminds me of someone I can’t quite place and you like things neat and proper. Have a slap on the back from me. Well done.

Wow, what a strange site….

I was one of the select few who happened to play Kingdom Hearts BEFORE any Final Fantasy, in fact, I had never heard of it….So I played and came across a Cloud, a Cid, a Yuffie….

And I came across an Aerith.

I never got the "OMG! Aeris! She’s back! Not dead!’ shock I was supposed to get, so that went up in flames…

I was crazy enough to get FFVII, seeing that Aerith’s name wasn’t the way I remembered it, I changed it:

Aeris : Aerith

That was it. The rest were as before.

Cid : Joe

I named them all Tifa. It’s even more interesting if you use an NPC name that’s referenced often — i.e., Shinra, Rufus, etc.

I named Barrett PityDaFoo

I name the mall after the members of my Sylvanian Family collection. Theres bunny, chester, granpa bunny, hopsie, Mr Nuts etc etc

First time I played the game I gave the characters the following names:

Cloud-Paul
Barret-Barret
Tifa-Jade
Aeris-Daphne
Red XIII-Flame
Cait Sith-Mog
Cid-Riley
Yuffie & Vincent-I didn’t get them

Since then I’ve tended to use the defaults but I usually name Red XIII Nanaki, for that reason that it triggers him saying in Rocket Town ‘I’m Nanaki, also known as Nanaki’ which I always thought was pretty funny.

Plus that’s his name and I think it sounds better than Red XIII.

Oh and there was one game when I was around 13 when I called every re-namable character in the game Sephiroth. Pretty stupid I know. :-[

The reason why I remember that one because we were all ROFL as we read the characters calling him Asswipe 9.
The next day, I began playing it and when I saw the name I was like: "Asswipe 9? You idiots, it’s 13 not 9!" and again I was ROFL.

I would just rename my FFVII characters according to my lifes story and the circle of friends and family I have. In other words, I would name Tifa after myself, and then the other characters some friends and family names (sorry I can’t remember, it’s been too long since I’ve played the game while renaming the characters XD).

My brother seems to have a habit of calling his charecters sware-words, i guess he thinks it’s funny when someone says.

"Hey, Shit, You there"
