Common misspelings or language differences?

Well as I’ve been told before, Japanese always seem to pronounce the American letter "s" as "T" and "H" put together, thus resulting in a "th" sound. Therefore, Aeris’ name in the Japanese version is simply "Aerith".

As for Yuffie’s last name…that’s new, I’ve never heard "Kistaragi" before….maybe it’s also in the Jap version..? I dunno…o.o;

G’s Lover is right about the Aerith thing; I write her name as Aerith ‘cuz it looks better and is the original, but I call her Aeris cuz it sounds better.

That Kistaragi thing must have been a typo. ‘Thats all i have 2 say about that.’

I c Tifa’s name as both ‘Lockheart’ and ‘Lockhart.’ It’s ‘Lockheart’ though, right? I think on Ehrgeiz it says ‘Lockhart’…i can’t remember. Y do they have those 2 spellings?

I think it has something to do with the English and Japanese language (correct ne if I’m wrong). It could be that Japanese people can’t pronounce Aeris and use Aerith instead………

The reason for this is because Japanese and English are two different languages (of course). The people that tend to speak Japanese usually do not talk in the same dialect and have the same tone as the US or UK. Their tongues tend to be more tense and sharper, whereas ours seem to be softer.

By changing the names from one game to another, it results in people from different cultures being able to engage in a conversation about the game(s) without becoming confused or crticized by the other person(s).

In Mexico, the name of Cloud is actually Claud, in France it is Claut, but they are all pronounced the same.

With that said, I still don’t get the reason for all of the spelling errors that are in the game. I mean can someone really use "OFF COURSE!!!" in response to "Will you continue?"

It’s the errors by the ‘experts’ you should worry about.

While we’re still on this topic, I have a couple of questions. First:

How does everybody here pronounce "Yuffie?" I’ve always pronounced it You-Fee myself, but recently I was talking with someone about FF7 and they pronounced Yuff-ee. (Rhyme with rough.)

Also, how about "Shinra?" I’ve always pronounced Sheen-ruh, but it occurs to me that it could also be pronounced Shin (as in chin) Rah (as in "say aaa) as well.

And yeah, I’m just guessing the error in Yuffie’s surname would have been a typo… O_o Although everyone else has already got it right about Aeris/Aerith. 🙂

And there are quite a few spelling and grammar mistakes in FF7…
"Off Course!" in the battle arena,
"This guy are sick", Aeris talking about the man in the pipe in sector 5,
"So this is how you fool them", "So that’s how you fooled them." Can’t remember where exactly that was, I think it was in Corneo’s mansion with Tifa and Aeris…

Here’s another one I just noticed while playing. In the Temple of the Ancients, Cait Sith says "I’m so exited!" Should be "excited."

I do think there was some kind of translation problem there and also something to do the way we both speak.

But about the Aerith thing, I have always called her Aeris in my games of FF7, but when ever I use my Cheat cartridge it calls her Aerith, so I’m not totally sure about this.

While we’re on questions and comments, I’d just like to add in:

Did anyone notice, that in Tifa’s 7th Heaven, next to the Pinball machine, there is a lighted sign.It reads "Cold Beer", and next to it is a sign that reads "Texas". Now someone tell my WHY the hell Texas is in there as a sign? THEY DON’T EVEN HAVE A PLACE CALLED TEXAS! Lol.

Cloud and Aerith have that conversation when Cloud uses the member card 2 get in2 the Honeybee Inn (or whatever it was called).

I pronounce Yuffie as ‘Yuh-fee’ and Shinra as ‘Shin-ruh’.

So duz ne1 know y they have Lockheart AND Lockhart though? It duznt seem like they need the 2 ways. Did ne1 even read my post? 😉 Thats ok, i guess every1 skips over some.

It must just be an error in the spellings or something.

I read your post, but I don’t really know why there would be two different ways. Maybe you should just go with the spellings in your manual in the CD case?

Yeah, I remember seeing that and thinking "Wait a sec, this game doesn’t take place on Earth!" :rolleyes: Same thing when you see Supernova and it goes through the solar system.

It’s been a while since I played FF7, but I remember it was full of typos. Some I remember:

-Touph ring (only because I’ve heard others say it. I have the PC version, which calls it a Tough Ring. Strangely, the other typos aren’t fixed in the PC version.)

-"This guy are sick." -Aeris

-"Elmyra was cried." -Cait Sith (All your base are belong to Elmyra. :rolleyes: )

-"Beacause you are a puppet." -Jenova or Sephiroth or someone. Like I said, it’s been a while since I played.

-Typhoon. Was supposed to be "Chupon," I think. Typhoon fits because it’s a wind attack, though. They may have renamed Chupon "Typhoon" for people who haven’t played FFVI.

In my game, his name is actually Typoon instead of Typhoon.

Hmm, I’m pretty sure he’s Typhoon in my game, but yeah, I think Fujin is right. It probably was supposed be Chupon, but they decided not to go with it.

i say shin as in your shin then ra so, shin-ra & on yuffie i say yuff-ee.. not to hard to say.. and in thie battle arena it say off course! not of course!

Here’s one I just noticed: "No one get in the way of Reno and the Turks."

BTW, it is indeed Typhon in my game and not Typhoon. I’m not sure what you guys are talking about in the Battle Arena though. It says "Of Course" in my game. I checked.
