I only gave him 1 Gil once, and he made his Zanmatou, but dont ask me why…..
That was in a harder battle at the monster-farm and I had lost almost all of my aeons. He was still alive, so I summoned him. I had given up this round already, thats the reason for giving him 1 Gil only. He made his Zanmatou……I guess, he just felt sorry for me….. 🙁
Some people say, if you treat him well (summon him pretty often, give him a lot of money and stuff), hell do it more often.
But I dont know about that, because I never really use him. Im always trying it the other way at first….. 😉
Zanmato works with a relationship. If you pay him well for his attacks, then when the time comes that you need zanmato, a decent payment will 90% of the time get it. I pay yojimbo 1000 gil/attack. Then when i need Zanmato – sometimes he pulls it with the usual 1000 payment, but ill normally pay him from 10k – 100k to pull it off – even on bosses. I payed him all my money once and he pulled it on Penance. Pay him well, and his relationship thing to you will be better. Dont let him die. Never pay him 0. Dont dismiss him and use him a lot and you can probs pull zanmato every other turn at least. And when you get him select the thing about becoming powerful…….. That for some reason makes him use it more. Ive never tried the naming thing.. I might get a rename card (This IS the game that you can get them right?)

Um…that would be FFVIII too. 🙁
Anywho, I never really saw the point in trying to get Yojimbo to use Zanmato. I always pay him one gil, and he does each of the four attacks on a regular basis. I don’t see what is so special about trying for Zanmato anyways.
i heard that if u name him zanmato then he like practically does it every time. but i have yet to try it so why do u try it and tell me if it works ok
Actaully that’s a bunch of bollocks 😡
I pay Yojimbo 1200 for a Zanmato, but alot of the time he does it for free, because I spend alot of hours with training him. And he can kill Dark Aeons/Penance but you’ll need roughly 1.260.000/1.360.000 gil and pay it at once. THe most important is the luck factor that’ll boost his motivation randomly. But other factors can be improved such as compatability with training.

You can’t direct link to the FAQ’s on GameFAQ’s. So go here (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/game/27609.html) and then click the Yojumbo FAQ near the bottom. Make sure you click the larger one (the second one).
If you just want to see Zanmato, then just pay like all of your gil to him, then reset afterwards. If you want to use Zanmato is some battles and such, check those FAQ’s to build up the relationship to build up your chances of him doing it.
Personally, I can do exceptionally well without Zanmato…
