I’ve seen it take a lot of heat, but thats probably from those who don’t fully understand it. But then again, it’s not even complicated.
And anyone who disagrees can at least say it’s better than FFX’s blitzball. Or at least, better than FFX’s blitzball when you try to acheive the ultimate goal in it (Getting Wakka’s Sigil). That wasn’t hard at all, it was just long winded and boring. I mean, who’d play 40 games of blitzball (which I believe is the minimum)?
Sphere Break is creative, simple (if you get it), and fun. My only issue is that even though it involves two players going against each other, you aren’t doing nearly the same thing as the computer. But oh well.
40? Just 40? I played at least over 100. Hands down the greatest thing about X. And, the ultimate prize for Blitzball is Auroch’s Spirit for Wakka, as it takes the most effort, if you played Blitzball religiously from the start. Raising Wakka from lvl 3?!?!?! to the upper 50’s so he can tech copy takes the most time, or at least feels that way. Playing catch in the sphere pool is LAAAAAAME, but how are you not going to play Blitzball until you can sign Wakka?
I don’t have an official opinion on Sphere Break, because I only played the tutorial. I will say that I don’t want to do math when I’m playing a video game :p
Just take this as me saying that some people love Blitzball enough to play it much more than the amount required to get Wakka’s Celestial weapon.
Heh, try getting the Force of Nature accessory in X-2 in the Thunder Plains if you haven’t… you’re in for a treat.

I have more or less the same opinion as Knegative. I played blitzball endlessly, purely because I enjoyed it, almost never to gain any rewards (though I did get Wakka’s ‘reels’ attacks from it).
Sphere Break just wasn’t that addictive. One thing I will say is that it was a good source of gil, but in FFX-2 you have basically nothing to spend gil on after the first 4 chapters.
Also, adapting the game so you could find core spheres and ‘level them up’ would have been interesting. But never mind.

i’ve got to disagree. I continued with it soley for the Lady Luck dressphere, but gave up after thirty plus losses. that’s one minigame I don’t care to understand, tetra master is a different story I could (and would) play all night 😀
but if I did it probably would be better then blitzball.
It was simple (but impossible once you tried to play people like Shinra and such) Get rid of as many gray coins per turn as you can by creating multiples of the core sphere, using various strategic effects to raise your score.
I consider it fun and addicting…but then again…I’m one of the few people who actually doesn’t despise my school…so it could be that as well.
I still think it’s fun and amazing!
(Also, I know I’m gonna get flamed for this, but I never had the drive to play blitzball. Way to boring!)
But whatever, there’s no % for it, or rewards like accessories you can only get by playing it, or other stuff as far as I know. So I never bothered.
