The gorgeous cut scenes are a welcome addition too. The game is definitely a challenge and the story and music are amazing.
What do you all think of this game?
I’m not very far into it (Fighting the leader of the Corpse Brigade)
I’m not very far into it (Fighting the leader of the Corpse Brigade)
I think If I play this game I’ll find myself correcting the in-game script too often. I.e. Corpse Brigade vs Death Corpse., Argath vs Algus. I bought FFTA-2 so that should distract me from reality for a while…
Anyway – I love the original FFT – I still coddle my PS1 disc like hemophilic baby. The game is RPG crack. The battle system – the customization. Here’s a top if you are still plowing through the game: Do not use Orlandu or his sword. It makes the game ridiculously easy. Hell – in one of my 100% games I had a Ramza who uses Excalibur and can 1 man any fight at the end game.
I played this ages ago, when it first came out. I really, really enjoyed it. I was skeptical at first, because it wasn’t the final fantasy i had been used to playing. But it was pretty addictive! The whole thing came together greatly.
I really enjoyed the development of the characters. Although i spent time grinding the original people you are given. Only to then end up doing it again with the "main" characters. For example, i obtained Cloud near the end. And although he was no use whatsoever when i first got him, i went through the motions of getting his sword, and teaching him his limit breaks.
Baltheir was a great addition to the fun. I didn’t do the extra Dungeons. But that was only because i ended up going onto a new game and never bothered to go back to it. I think i will do at some point.
Out of curiosity Purr, where are you up to now? I suppose you have finished it?
To be honest, I stopped playing it a while ago…Mainly because I bought FFIV on the DS.
I didn’t get far into it at all.
I really recommend going back to it. It’s worthy of finishing for sure. But I suppose it’s your call.
Probably once I finish FFIV ๐
jftr :p
Also I’m curious as to who gave this thread 5 stars? ๐ฎ
Man even his son, Olan, had a ridiculous spell that could effect everyone on the battlefield.
BUT: Yeah, this game is a true strategy RPG gem. A few years from now I’ll probably be playing this game again. Much like Castlevania SOTN, this game ages well.
The fight where Wiegraf turns into Belias was insanely hard. It took me many tries, and I had to use a weird tactic
There are also other ways to amp up the difficulty in the game. One such challenge is to play through the game using a party of the same class. I played through using only monks – that was pretty damn fun! Of course monks are pretty damn versatile – try imagining playing the game with a harder to use class like … calculators – lol. Here is a FAQ compilation of all the challenges created for the game:
I’ll be starting a new game tonight as I already had two of my characters die after only playing it for 6 hours…
…Any hints / tips?
light weight spoiler…
I thought the first chapter dragged on and was boring, but it picked up really well after that.
I’ll pick this up if I ever get a PSP.
Made Ramza a Knight and one of my Squires into another chemist so I can get enough job points for black / white mage.
No characters have died thus far ๐
Best class for Ramza – Squire (only because he get’s Ramza only squire moves ) – but make sure to get skills from other classes as well, of course.

Ditto. The end of the 1st chapter was really great tho. Y’know…
…killing Algus and the epic explosion.
You have the option to rez or finish the fight before their spirits crystalize I think. Not sure about the second part of that answer. I do remember losing Mustadio the way of the crystal in my first playthrough. :/
No more engineer for the rest of the game. :/
But…
I’m up to the bit where you fight against the leader of the Corpse Brigade in Dorter, but I find the fight really hard, so I’m just grinding around the area a bit before attempting it again. I’m a bit of a tactics n00b :p
Up to the second fight with Milleuda at Lenalian Plateau.
Really getting into this!
Agreeing with this. Beat: If you look at post 17 in this thread, you’ll see a said a similar thing. It is a tough fight.
Purrr: That scene is great i think. Keep playing!
"Hmph. It’s as I’ve always said: Common blood, common
man. You’ll never be more than you were born, Delita! You don’t belong in our
world. You ought be licking our boots with the rest of you ilk, churl!"
The whole scene with Argath, Delita and Ramza outside the castle in Eagrose was amazing. I love the way they speak and the insults they flew at each other.
Ah, I see it now. "CLOPS!" = Dead party members @ start of battle. Lol
Ngrplz, I bet you are enjoying the awesome soundtrack as well, right?
Probably one of the best…if you’re into that kind of music that is.

Definitely. The soundtrack is easily one of the greatest FF OSTs I’ve heard.
I will definitely be downloading it over the the weekend.
For some reason this game reminds me of Vagrant Story at times, doused with the oil of political intrigue and set alight by the edge of your seat battles.
**edit** The man responsible: Yasumi Matsuno
I thought it took place in Lea Monde.
FFXII looked good. FFT plays better.

**edit** Ooops Japanese lol – give me a sec haha

Hmm .. doesn’t mention Vagrant Story so much. In any event – they were made by the same people! ๐
But Wiki is interesting.
One of my favorite quotes in the game
The soundtrack is great actually. I think I’ll have a look for it over the weekend.
Up to the last fight of Chapter One. Won’t say who for obvious spoileriffic reasons.
Ramza has mastered the Squire occupation and has now moved onto Knight.
Am I the only one who thinks Chemists are far more useful than White Mages?
Also: Ramza will get more skills for the Squire class as the game goes on. Notice how it doesn’t say *MASTER* next to Squire?
(At least…I think he does.)
….Will start again soonish.
I usually end up resetting it if it happens.
You mean a direct sequel?
the sequel to this game storywise is Vagrant Story. But I know what you mean, anyway, a direct sequel in my opinion would have ruined the storyline.
But hey, there’s always room for a surprise, maybe someday some project of a new Ivalice title with Matsuno at the head will be the direct sequel of this awesome game.
Have my 5 main party:
Squire (Ramza)
Chemist
Monk
Time Mage
Knight
….Seems to be wroking for now ๐
