My favorite arcade game of all time is probably Virtual On. There was an arcade in a hotel at least a good hour away from me that had Virtual On, and I used to go up there all the time to play it. I have it for the PS2, but it’s just not the same.
The only game I play much in arcades right now is Soul Calibur II. That’s partly because there isn’t much of a selection at the local arcade, and partly because it’s fun to watch Merl get all pouty after he gets owned. Any arcade game I can school people in generally becomes a favorite.
So my favorite would have to be Time Crisis 3.
Not too into the fighting arcades, mainly because whenever I try one to try to get a feel for it, and win one round against the computer, some jerk that has every move and glitch in the arcade memorized comes along and pwnz me so he and a friend can play each other on it (casual arcade gamers, that is, to kill time or whatever, need not apply, I guess).
But any flight/driving simulator/arcade, or shooting arcade, I own.
If not probably Area 51.
I do. I just suck at coming up with favorites for anything. I’ve never really got all that behind a particular arcade game. King of Fighters is my favorite fighting game series, but that may be because I’m so used to it.
Space Harrier is awesome.
And then there was The Simpsons game as well. That was just as great.
That game was Sunsetriders… SUCH a GREAT GAME! ;-;
Oh, and of course all the Street Fighter games (except maybe StreetFighter: The Movie).
The early to mid 90’s were the best time for the arcades in my opinion. I haven’t set foot in an arcade in years though now, the consoles are too powerful to bother going anywhere and spending huge amounts of money to get practiced on a game. Got sick of being beaten by teenagers who have too much time and money on their hands who have been playing the games non-stop for weeks.
Long live MAME!!
My favourite of them is probably Last Blade 2, or Metal Slug 5, though KoF2k3 = special :p
I think it’s called Police 911 . It’s a Japanese first person shooting game. When you duck, the game ducks. Then at the end you recive a rating about your intellegence, bravery, reflex, ect. If you go far you can get a bit of a work out.
Yeah that game is pretty friggin sweet. It is Police 911, and you stand on the cool little pad… awesome.
fave is definitely the tmnt arcade game. is that what it was called? thats how everyone in my family always refer to it as.
right now ive been wasting quarters on a neo geo game at a local motel called magic balloon drop 2 or something liket that. addictive.
Yeah, it took me two continues to beat that one, but I completed it. Got a score of 800/1000, I was soo close to getting "Breau Chief" (lol, gotta love the typos in arcade games)on the rank between levels, but beat the game before I got it (No 100 lives for me ๐ ๐ )….
but the original wonderboy game was so addictive its unreal…. god i love those wonderboy games ๐
Arcade games were amazing, be it the ones where you grap a mate have some guns and shoot the screen wasting god knows how many pounds or the more platform and then came the classics.
Oh i loved playing TMNT on the aracades and there was this X-Men game as well, don’t know what it was called but it was amazing.
Too much money into those machines . . .
Well worth it though!!!!
First being the original Macross arcade machine. Based on the anime of the same name, I used to play this game every chance I could. I loved the anime and I loved this game.
Second, Daytona. This is great fun, especially if you have three others playing against you. Stuff racing against the computer, smash into your friends and see how many times you could smash their car up. Heh, heh, heh…
Third, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. When I was younger, and when TMNT was still fresh, everyone played it. Personally, I always used Raphael. He’s my fav.
Fourth, Metal Slug. Now, I’d prefer this to be the version where you can have blood in it, but in most of the arcades around where I live, the Metal Slug arcade consoles have the no blood option turned on. Bloody fascists!
And my personal favourite arcade game… ALIEN VS PREDATOR!!! I really, really, REALLY love this game!! I remember when I had some work experience in the city, during my lunch break I’d go to the store this game was in, and spend my entire break playing this game. I could finish it, just under 45 minutes. Having to choose between a cyborg (Female character) a guy with a robotic arm (Dutch Shaeffer, the name of the character from the original Predator movie, the one Arnold Schwarznegger (SP?) played). If those two weren’t enough, there were two different Predators to play as. The warrior from Predator 2 and the Predator Hunter from Predator. I always use the Predator Hunter, because he was more dangerous and had a cool special move.
There’s this other one -forgot the name- that’s pretty sweet. it’s a samurai game where you have the handle of a katana and you move the blade around on screen.
Bahamut ZERO: I was/am the exact same with those two classics.
When’s the movie coming out, anyway? Gotta be sometime in the next couple months…. That’s going to be so cool to see (assuming the don’t cheat all the fans of the two series by holding the face-off between the predators and aliens until the last five minutes of the movie).

I never even knew they made a Macross arcade game.
I need to track that down.
Are the controls anything like Virtual On’s?
One is overhead, and one is sidescrolling.
Marvel Vs Capcom 2… very very addictive once you know how to use Cable…
I think that it’s a sick game too. But Cable is’nt that good to me. Balckheart got me addicted to it.
