So there.
Also, where is the credible news link?
Some were predicting a stumble when bolting out the gate. Not a recall. But that seems like a stumble to me.
and this isn’t really a stumble. the chances of them recalling all units are pretty insanely slim.
Every console release has a few bumps in the road.
ps2 had the worst sofar with the defected laser issue
xbox had some minor discdrive errors
cube was perfect
No, but this seems like a tad bit more than a few bumps. I don’t remember this sort of thing happening to any of the older systems.
Actually, the articles i’ve read suggest that it’s only 3-5% of systems. That’s a pretty average failure rate for a console launch – the only reason that the Xbox 360 is being highly publicised is because it’s so hard to come across a system.
If your PSP failed on launch, you could take it back to the store and exchange it for a working one. You’d be pissed, but not as much as those who stayed in the cold for 48 hours, and have to send their 360 away to be replaced – a process taking 3 days.
3-5% of Xbox 360 launch customers is a substantial number of angry voices. The fault doesn’t really lie in the hardware being worse than any other console launch – it has to do with the fact that the console launched early, before Microsoft had enough consoles for a ‘global’ launch.
the fact that it is far worse quality-wise than anyone paying that kind of money should expect for anything is another matter entirely!
What?
The Xbox 360 is cheaper than the PS2 was when it came out in England (IIRC the ps2 was £300; I am not totally sure of this so please correct me, but I’m definitely sure it wasn’t sub-£200). The core price is the same as the PS2 was in America. The amount of extra shit you get with the premium pack makes the $400 worth it.
Don’t give me this ridiculous crap about "oh no it is ludicrously expensive," when in reality it’s about the same goddamn price as everything else when it was released, and hey, guess what, the PS2 was a pretty bad launch lineup too.
I’m having a lot of fun with my 360. That may be because I stick my winky in it.
Some of us don’t have $400 to throw around.
The standard pack is $299, which yeah, is the same price the PS2 launched at.
I imagine it will take a price drop not that long after they start becoming more easily available, and you’ll be able to get things like used and refurbished ones too. So if you actually want one, it really won’t be hard to get one for an ok price!
thats almost 600$
dvd was relatively new at that time tho

the core package is a ripoff though.
But consider that the PS2 AND Xbox were released at the same price as the core pack, with similar pack-ins – one wired controller.
I think it’s just been too long since 1999, and people forget how much it hurt us (well, my parents in those days) to be one of the early adopters. And many ‘new’ gamers, who bought their PS2s and Xboxes for sub US$150 prices are taking notice because this is their first major home console launch.
the hard drive which is premium pack was a packin with the xbox.
Goin’ to ignore the rest of what you posted cos it wasn’t relevant to my point. (yeah i phrased it really badly)
There really shouldn’t be so many defects in new consoles! A lot of the stuff, like the power supply thing, seem like ridiculous oversights. The fact that, what is it, 3 -5 % have to be returned is just shoddy. I am not pointing a finger at Microsoft or anything here, I realise it happens with pretty much every console, especally the ones which are rushed out the door to beat the competition. But I still think they shouldn’t be released untl the vast majority of this kind of stuff is taken care of. Don’t think it would be tolerated in many other areas, even with new techy stuff! but I guess people have grown to expect it. it’s not at all a critical comment on the 360 or sth.
Only thing I will say is there aren’t enough new and intersting titles on it to really interest me, but that’s pretty typical at this stage in a consoles life.
