XBOX, you know you love it

I dont understand why everyone hates this system. its by far the most impressive of the bunch. PS2 being last of 3 systems. PS2 is using all its graphics power already at this point. when Xbox and GCN are only using half. mind you the games on ps2 dont even compare to whats to come on the xbox

PS2 doesnt have the power to keep up with the xbox, when Microsoft really starts pumping out the titles (brute force, halo 2, etc.) you will see

and besides theres talk about Microsofts purchase of square. and beleave me, they have the power to do it.

Indeed. Besides, all you’ve said is that Xbox is more powerful than everything else. That’s nothing without quality games to back it up. I do give props to Morrowind, and the upcoming Ninja Gaiden makes me hopeful, but so far that’s all. True, the system hasn’t been out for too long compared to its competitors, but from what I’ve seen so far I can only imagine this turning out to be an eye-candy-before-gameplay-system.

Ah, but PS2 is only the start of Sony’s reign, wait for PS3, it is supposedly ment to be 1000x’s better than PS2.

But XBOX, is quite good it has a few good games: Halo, DOA3, Project Gotham Racing. It’s mainly due to the Microsoft popularity is why it isn’t doing as well as it should have.

Though about you remark about Squaresoft, Squaresoft are a very good all rounder, developer, they can produce amazing games, and they have some of the best graphics on them.

In regards to comparing SquareSoft, a game devloper to X-Box, the system,I beleave DL was referring to it attracting game develpers who are more driven to making games based on graphical prefomance, and Square,while you can argue that their games are gameplay before graphics, I hardly think thats true, considering that their graphics have only greatly advanced in the past five years,and if it were so true about them putting that much emphasis on graphics, then why aren’t they on X-box instead of the "far less superior PS2" and now GC,besides developer who’s focus is on pretty graphics is still different from a system which is based on graphics.

That is what I was referring to. And though many would disagree, I’ve yet to find a battle system that is far better off than FF’s Active Time Battle, and as battle is one of the main aspects of gameplay in an RPG then in my book, FF pretty much sets the standard. It’s as Digital Bath has said, when it comes to good all-rounders, Square takes the cake.

I totally agree with what’s been said about Square. Their games are pretty much good in every way (although there are always exceptions ^_^;;)

As far as I’m concerned, Xbox is crap. Even dismissing all my negative feelings towards Microsoft, pretty much the only Xbox games I am interested in are the Sega ones. Just because a system is more powerful (and, in fact, it’s even arguable that the GC is technically even with the Xbox, because even though the numbers may not be as good in some areas, it’s the ultimate result that counts, and so far the GC has been pretty on par with XB when it comes to the best graphics on each system) doesn’t mean it’s better.

Even if the Xbox had lots of games I was interested in, I would still hate it, because I hate the way Microsoft does business in general, and I pretty much hate everything about them, so the last thing I want is for them to become a major part of any more industries, especially not monopolize them.

I wish Microsoft hadn’t entered the console biz, but they’re here and nothing I say will make them go away so I’ll just have to live with it.

As for the games, there isn’t a whole lot out that I like. Jet Set Radio Future is fun, Halo is fun, DOA3 is fun….. but right off the top of my head those are the only X-box exclusive games that seem remotely interesting to me, and only a few announced games sound good (Shenmue II, Project Ego, Halo 2, Ninja Gaiden).

And let’s face it, specs don’t make a system; games do.

Sega’s support of the system may end up causing me to buy one, but I don’t see myself buying one anytime soon.

Maybe XboX has the most muscle but so far it hasnt showed much of it. I’ve played alot of games on the XboX and I dont know what it is, but for some reason I dont like them a much as for the PS2 or GC.

X-Box definitely has the most powerful hardware… But it’s the games that are important, and the quality of them. At the moment, the only reason I’d buy a next gen console is to play a Final Fantasy game (sad, I know), and the only console with Final Fantasy X on it is the PS2.

Microsoft and Nintendo are playing catch-up with Sony still after the booming success of the PS1. Come the next round of consoles, things are gonna be more equal.

I’m still waiting for the X-Box to blue screen though… Good old Microsoft. :rolleyes: Joking, okay?

Most of those games listed are already released on other systems and pc. Like Morrowind which I own for quite a while now. And since alot of games are being released (if not already) on PS2 it only will become harder for the XboX to catch up.

There are already TONS of really, really good first person shooters for PC that you can get at bargain prices these days, all of which are FAR superior to any Xbox FPS because you can use a mouse/keyboard for control.

but totally contradicting myself, Imho the Xbox still lacks in that. Ps2 and GC bring gameplay.

So far, absolutely NO Xbox games have interested me. The only games I play have well done plots (something I have never seen on anything that exclusively requires a microsoft product). And the fact is, I don’t plan on buying a TV set capable of showing the wonderful graphics Xbox can display anytime soon. By the time I buy an HD Wide Screen, Sony will probably have their 4th console out (which I’m sure will be better in all aspects compared to the Xbox).

The Xbox is a cheep PC shoved into a green and black box (which by the way is so big that in Target it was sitting at a diagonal inside the display case). I know the US seems to be going through a "Mine is bigger" stage (seeing how SUVs like the excrusion are being made), but the origional controler size was ridiculous. Start small, then make the bigger option. Only a year later did Microsoft decide to make a smaller controller for the US. Basically, I like being able not have to buy a new piece of entertainment center furniture just because of a videogame system. I keep all 6 of my game systems on the same entertainment center. The gamecube especially is compact if your tough on space, and the PS2’s slim and optional verticle standing design is space saving. Xbox is bigger than than my beige Macintosh.

Then there is the stupidist online gaming marketing idea I have ever seen. Not only does Microsoft charge to play any online game, but you HAVE to have broadband. I don’t have the money to pay for that, at least offer a dialup option in the hardware, even if you don’t decide to host the network yourself. That way developers could let you connect directly to another Xbox to play over a distance. Even Nintendo left open the possibility of online play with either broadband or analog (Unfortunately NOA’s president is a dickhead and doesn’t think online play is that important, I hope he gets hit by a bus and someone with common sense takes over so that they release their online adapters).

As for the graphics again, so far I have seen only one Xbox game match PS2’s GT3 graphics (and even then PS2 had slightly better graphics). It’s some rally racing game for Xbox, I don’t remember the name.

There was a pretty nice fighting game (at least it looked nice) but that’s about all I gather from it.

Then of course, Xbox is made my Microsoft – enough said there. The last computer I bought was the first and last Windows machine I’ll ever buy. I’m going back to Apple (so i can get some actual work done without worrying about some kind of crash).

I think Microsoft should stay out of the console business, they’re disrupting the balance of things with their presence. Isn’t having an unfair advantage in the PC world enough?

i personaly hate the xbox, yes it has far more number crunching power than ps2 or gc, but its the games that make or break a system. the only "good" xbox game ive played is halo. the ps2 has a gigantic hard drive, a dozen online games coming out, and a huge fan base. it also doesnt help that the psx/psone is selling more units and games than the xbox. ps2 is getting mgs2: substance, has turok, and morrow wind is too huge of a game to be on a console.

A "chip" to play PS2 on X-Box ???

Now that is VIRTUALLY impossible…Same goes for a PS2 emu for X-Box…

The only way for a PS2 game to boot on a X-Box would be via emulation…And as I said, the X-Box won’t have what it takes to emulate a PS2…It could emulate N64 AT THE VERY BEST…Not enough RAM…

I think thats comming straight outta your ass man.

the ps3 is supposedly coming out in 2005, when the xbox is to become profitable. early estimates were that it would be 300-2000 times more powerful that a ps2. now they’re saying it will be about 2-3 time more powerful. installing a chip in either console would be imposible for those who own them, retailers would have to install them. a chip would be the least of the problems for emulating ps2 on xbox and vice versa. they use completely diferrent formats, software. yes microsoft could build something infinitly more powerful than console for a long time, but it still wouldnt have the fan base. and to those who cant type (you know who you are) please learn or stop posting.

It’s just a personal opinoin about the systems, plus the graphics dont matter when it comes to games, what makes a game system succesful is the game quality it delivers with its titles. So far I’ve only seen a few games for X-Box that are actually good one of which are Halo, Nintendo has a few to such as Mario, Metroid and Resident Evil, PS2 has so many I can’t even begin to name them. ^_^

Square is already with Nintendo now(well they are with Nintendo and Sony I think) and I haven’t heard anything about them going to Microsoft.

thats why theres gonna be a ps3. ps2 has lots of power saying its almost 2 years old.

XboX is hardly any competetion for PS2 and even the GameCube. I have seen the stats for Europe and sony has sold more the 30.000.000 PS2s which is almost 90% of the total market share. Further more I think that XboX isnt doing the right thing. I have seen games for PS2 and XboX compared them and barely saw graphical differences, also I think that XboX lakes the power of gameplay. This is all opnion and do with it as you please.

Following on from what Vivi was saying, when PS3 comes out in 2005, XBOX will only be starting to sell a few more units. Then everybody will go for PS3, so Microsoft get fucked once again, and try to put one up on Sony once more, but fail miserably.

There definatly is a difference between the 2 systems graphics but the X-Box is proving a point for a long fought battle about "Graphics aren’t what make the games great" The X-Box is pulling out a Sega act just like the DreamCast did, but also a fact that Sega screwed up by releasing the DC right before the PS2. Everybody was saving there money for a PS2 and not a DC at the time.

X-Box on the other hand just doesn’t have much of a good library yet, and that may cause it’s downfall.

Well, I betting that if the X-Box does die, it will be because of the lack of quality games. Let’s face it, graphics DO NOT make or break a console, its the games that do. Graphics are just basically a tie-breaker between two consoles for their greatness.

So far, I’m not too impressed with the line-up of games that are coming on the X-Box. Sure it does have some really good games for the console. But every console is going to have some great games. The difference between the average console and the great consoles are the amount of great games they have. Right now, the PS2 has more great games outta all of the three consoles. Of course, it has been out longer, but outta the line-up of games for the three consoles, the PS2’s line-up looks most promising. The GC coming in a close second. And with the X-Box coming in dead last.

Sure, it may have some good graphics. But would you rather play a console with alot of great games and ok graphics? Or would you rather play a console with a few great games and awesome graphics?

If the GC and the PS2 wanted to practically be a pc in a box instead of consoles **oooh all that’s missing now is the mouse, keyboard and moniter**they would kick x-box’s butt any day!

PS. its impossible for the xbox and any other console to get chipped for each other, as the x-box reads its information backwards (mainly so no illegal copies are made)

I actually just decided to get an Xbox this Christmas, and I think it was a good decision. The Xbox’s 2003 lineup already has some impressive titles, like True Fantasy, Fable, Halo 2, and Capcom Vs. SNK EO (the first ever online fighter), but the main thing that made me go through with it was Xbox Live. I don’t really like to play games on my comp that much, because of all the annoying upgrading involved, so Xbox’s online deal is great for me. I get good online games like Ghost Recon and Unreal, and I can play them on an even playing field (technology-wise), and in the comfort of my bedroom. And for those of you who have never gamed online, it is an amazing experience. Especially for a game like Ghost Recon, where you can use the headset to communicate with your teamates and work together as a team. It’s a blast.

That’s really the best reason to buy an Xbox right now, I think; online gaming. Sony’s plan isn’t nearly as good, and the Gamecube’s plans are still kind of murky right now.

Nintendo isnt sure what they want to do in the online gaming world right now. For now they are sitting back to see what happens when the other consoles go online and have fewer Solid Single Player games out, at that point Nintendo can consider what to do, because if both the online systems fail at online gaming and loose alot of money from it, Nintendo will realize its not worth it. If the online consoles succeed greatly with online gaming, Nintendo may then join in on the next gen of online console gaming, if they see it’s brining in alot of money for them.

Well why you talk about online gaming, I think that I would rather play an online game on the computer more than on a console. This is because of several reasons.

1) More people will play online games on computer than on consoles.
a) Because more people own computers than consoles.
b) Because you have to have a cable or higher connection to play on console games. To play online for computer you can have a 56k and still play.

2) I would rather play with a keyboard and mouse than a controller. Even if the controller is PS2, XBox, or whatever.

3) Monthly fees. I don’t have to pay for MOST online games on my computer. My parents pay for it through the connection. If I was to play online on a console, I would have to pay a monthly fee because I know my parents would never pay for that.

So because of these reasons, I probably wont get online with any consoles anytimes soon. So I would think that getting an XBox just for online gaming is pretty silly. Just my opinion tho 😛

I’ve been playing alot of Phantasy Star Online for Game Cube lately, and you’re right, though there are a couple hundred thousand PSO players online, it doesn’t hold a candle to the number of people who hog the servers of say, Blizzard’s Diablo 2 all day.

But the way I see it, less players amounts to less lag, and a smaller online community in general tends to make for a friendlier atmosphere – but that’s just speaking through personal experience in various places.

I’m not too sure where you got the idea that you need to have broadband to play online… is it really so for Xbox? Because GC is broadband and modem compatible.

Well, I heard that from one of my friends who owns an X-Box. I wouldn’t be suprised if he was wrong tho. So I guess my information for that statement isn’t exactly the best. XD Whoops.

So far there’s no monthly fee for Xbox live. You buy the $50 online startup kit, and you’re automatically subscribed to the entire service for a year.

And yes, Xbox live is broadband only.

This whole topic is useless since the best system is your own personal opinion. I prefer Gamecube because I love Nintendo games and I am not into online gaming.

I cant wait to see what the Cube does this year. IMO it had the best overall game lineup of last year. PS2 might have ruled 2001, but 2002 was the year of the Cube. 😉

Woah! Did I miss somthing here… who said somthing about graphics? Graphics in a game are only there to make them look pretty, its the story, characters, controlls, replay value that make up the game.

I admit x-box is a good system but like the others I like PS2 better thatn x-box and I think PS2 has some killer games some of the best I have seen on any system yet.
