Vampire Hunter D

so so so tell me that do you think of it?
as i can remember i love D he is so great i watched the first movie years ago then i played for sure the ps game and then 2000 the second movie ^^ did you also heared that idea for the the movie blade I came because of Vampire Hunter D?
i really like the way i what the second movie is drawn.
but i also love the story of the first movie and in some ways the "first" D is cooler as the "second". That do you also think of the D thema?

I’ve heard that Vampire Hunter D was made specifically for American release- although it was made in Japan. Not sure if that’s true or not.

At any rate, I like both the Vampire Hunter D movies very much, but Bloodlust is my favorite- I really love the way that it ends.

Blade was not based on Vampire Hunter D. The character Blade existed in comics long before D’s first novel was ever published.

The game sucked. Completely. Utterly. Boundlessly even.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust was a joint American/Japanese project and was originally released in English. I don’t remember where it was actually animated though.

A little sidenote: Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is based on the first of a series of novels. The first movie was based on the third novel.

yeps there are that vampire hunter D novels and the movies based on it. i think the game was good just think about the time when it was made.

my brother played it when it was new and i just watched *hihihi* but i liked it really, the story etc.
nope as much as i know you won�t get the novel on english i would also love to read it :/.
and i always thought of how the japanis voice of D is ^.^.

It was action-adventure-ish. I’ve never played it though, only read up on it.

I’d like to track it down someday, even though the game sounds pretty awful. It would be fun to use PSMplay and get the movies.

So the movies are actually pure novelizations, am I right? I would very much like to read these books, if that is the case.

I saw Vampire Hunter D only two days ago, so it’s kind of fun I found this thread. (This will be my first post here on FF-Shrine.) However, I loved the movie, just because D was in it. He is really cool, and if it wasn’t for him, this movie would only be a ‘movie-you-have-to-see-at-least-once’, or so to say. I have Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust actually, but I haven’t taken myself the time to see it… Should I? If we compare the illustration-capacity, we all agree the quality of the second movie far surpasses the first one, agreed? < ^o^ > That makes the second one more attractive in my opinion. The first movie had a sort of a dark setting to it, which I didn’t like in the first place. If it is something I really do love about the movie(s) it would be the music, though. Really… Awesome.

And by the way; Blade was NOT based on any of these movies/novels.

You should definitely take the time to see Bloodlust. In my opinion, it’s better then the first D movie.

Definitely. Hands down. The first one was only mildly entertaining for me, but Bloodlust was nothing short of a masterpiece.

hehehe if i see it right D is in the first movie younger, and you see more about his "vampire coming out" side or?

i love watching the end of the first movie over and over again when i want to sleep that music is just to fine.

Actually, Bloodlust is set several centuries before the first movie.

I’d hardly label Bloodlust a masterpiece. It was far too flawed to be that… The animation is superb, but the story is full of holes and just doesn’t have enough substane to warrant repeated viewings.

Translations of novels generally suck… Look at the translation for the popular Battle Royale novel for instance… reading that is like reading an instruction manual; any of the magic in description is lost in translation.

Your best bet at reading it is to learn Japanese.;)

The only way to get a decent translation of a Japanese novel would be to have it translated, then entirely rewritten by a professional author. Otherwise, as Eijiro said, it’s like reading an instruction manual.

Ok, I watched enough of the movie to conclude I was on crack when I said it had plots holes; there’s barely anything to have holes in. The plots is just very lacking in anything that draws you in… I’ll probably have to pick up the novels, maybe I’m missing some background information, but I didn’t find the storyline attractive at all.

That said the animation and action scenes are beautiful. Very nicely done.

I disagree completely with you, but that was definitely well said.

I’ve seen both VHD movies, but I didnt like the first one. Bloodlust was way better. And it’s my favorite anime movie. As for the characters.. D is totally cool but I like Meier Link better. And im glad he got reunited with Charlotte in the end ^_^

It’s kinda funny how D was only a supporting character in that movie. His parasite actually had more of a role than him.

Not that I find that to be a bad thing, mind you.

What was the deal with that one vampire hunter in Bloodlust that did that semi-awesome psychic projection deal where he ran around blowing shit up–but was otherwise a quadraplegic?

Also, Blade was an american comic book character for years, had several crossover comics with Spiderman and others long before the Vampire Hunter D movies were made.

Plus, I’m sure the Japanese look at the Blade rubbish and laugh heartily at it’s lack of style.

From what I could tell, Grove (the projection guy) had that crazy power, but using it screwed up his body. Or maybe it was the drugs that induced it that messed him up. Beyond that, I know nothing about him. The movie didn’t exactly delve very deep into those characters.
