anime morals?

K this was a thred in the old ffs but I think it had a good point.

Is it ok for people who live in a place where anime is hard to come by (i.e north america) to get anime illegaly over the internet or from dvd rips?

I mean I didnt see any good anime till I started doing this, and they wouldnt loose sales to someone who couldnt or wouldnt buy their product anyways right? so I think its all justifyed.

In my humble opinion, I would not blame anybody who downloads an anime as long as this is the only only way for him to see it. As long as this person promises that as soon as this anime is published, he buys it legally.

I have ten Kenshin episodes on my hard drive. Yeah, I downloaded them illegally, but alas, what else should I do? I am addicted and the rights have already been sold in Germany for years… BUT the company has never actually released them… BECAUSE they did release Thee Hakkenden, a stupid, bad, bad baaaaaaad anime, and when it did not seel well they thought nobody was interested in samurai anime in general. So… sometimes it is pretty well justified. Some anime markets are simply evil.

In Germany there are way more manga than anime… In fact, there are only a few anime series… nothing at all compared to America, or England.

If they can’t get it anywhere else, then I don’t see why they couldn’t download. Seriously, if I could find anime DVD’s around here at a reasonable price, I would buy it. Most of the time I would just buy the anime raw from japan, though. Raw anime=best anime.

An anime isn’t illegal to download over the net if it hasn’t been licensed. There are things called fansubs. Most of the anime on my hard drive are fansubs, though I do have "a few" dvd rips of Kenshin(ep1-57:P).

Ya cuz I live in manitoba, and here it is almoast totaly impssible to come by. Unless you use the internet where you can find almoast any anime.

I wish I could finatialy support the artists who make it but I cant, so I give them the only thing I can….Total admaration!

Yeah, sometimes downloading is the only way. You have no way of getting the anime, so the only way you can watch it is by downloading. While you’re not supporting the artist financially, you can support him by promoting his anime(make a website, tell your friends, etc.).

I think having anime over the net kind of promotes anime. You almost never see anime in North America, so having it around the net promotes anime. People would then be looking for the anime in their area.

Downloaded anime is great, but I think we all agree when I say that we’d buy anime if we have the chance.

Well, if it was my only choice to get the anime then I think I would do it. If you mean downloading episodes illegal over something like Morpheous then I say no, bad user.

We used to get alot of anime here. But most of it probably never made it further than Asia. But now when all the new cartoons starting getting really popular, we hardly get any cool anime anymore. Whenever I want something I order it.. or download if it wasn’t copyrighted. ^_~

Well… virtuous manga-kas and anime artist shouldn’t care how their work is obtained so long as they spread their art and story…

For me, like most of you, if it’s available for me & I can buy it, I will. If there’s no other way for me to ever see it in English, either dubbed or subbed, then I’ll download it. They should seriously change some aspects of copyright/download laws to account for companies or whatever not releasing something in other countries/languages just because they think it won’t be popular, 90 % of the time they’re wrong, most of us love it & would kill to have it in our native language, but they don’t give us that option. 🙁

It happens all the time too for video games & it’s incredibly annoying & just shows how dumb people can be, & it really gets me angry to know that people like that are in charge of important things & they don’t deserve to be, they don’t do enough research on other countries so they assume we won’t like something because they’re using old data, or they just don’t care! 🙁
