Yes! Finally! Thanks.
The voices are poor, the performance is worse.
(I’m in love with her since I saw The Dark Knight Rises)
thanks 🙂

Yeah; it’s not quite up to the standard that you’d expect to see in the West End or or Broadway, although I like what they’ve done with the orchestrations. I was in this show years ago and the training, prep and rehearsal schedule was a killer. The musical supervisors were worse than concentration camp guards: any minor slip was recorded and used to beat you over the head with… 🙂
I urge you all to check out the older release from 1996 or whatever. It’s much better!
I didn’t like hearing Jackman sing in the trailer at all.
He comes off too soft and too high to sound like he’s singing.
I loved hearing Hathaway sing. The teaser trailer was really great, I thought.
Crowe seemed decent but nothing "wow" worthy. At least he used more of his natural voice when singing. Not like that hack Hackman.
Curious to hear it all, thanks for this 🙂
I’m definitely calling it as an Oscar contender. In many categories – Best Picture, Best Original Song, Actor / Actress, Supporting, and prob Costume Design and Set Decoration.
Moving on to the actual OST…does anyone know if the music heard at the end of the trailers is featured on this? It’s a piano. I think it may be "I Dreamed A Dream", but I’m not sure. I know almost nothing about this film
The piano may come back strongly in the final track for the Epilogue.
Though I’m only on track 11.
Jackman sounds like a strangled cat that sings with his chest and not his diaphragm.
He can hold a note and do a bit of vibrato though.
Crowe has a bit of a nasal singing voice.
Bonham Carter sounds like Bonham Carter. No way around that. Just like Depp sounds like Depp and not Tonto.
Baron Cohen is nice to hear.
The girl playing young Cosette is great. Not looking for a prodigee.
The "cast" (background singers/characters) are great to listen to. The orchestrations are nice in this. I hope there will be an instrumental album in the future.

People and critics
Oh, I believe it will for so many things. But acting and singing are not one of them.
Anyone who believes that are completely ignorant of the origins of the musicals.
Aside from Sacha Baron Cohen, the male vocals really stunk in this.
Jackman gets another solo track later on but there’s way too many parts where he has to hold a high note and Jackman just does not have the endurance nor the capacity. He seriously sounds like he needs a brown paper bag to breath in once he’s finished.
I felt tired and exhausted half way through. I had to skip that track. :notgood:
I skipped a lot of the male singing tracks. :notgood:
The female singers were the better half of the soundtrack.
Except Seyfried. I hated her chirping voice. :notgood:
I’m digging up one of the anniversary albums from the actual Broadway musical with actual singing in it.
It’s a piano.
It’s not. It’s faint and only appears on "I Dreamed A Dream". It’s a lot quieter than the teaser trailer version.
Big let down hearing him sing the Javert’s suicide track.
I actually enjoyed Todd much more. Depp’s stereotyped character actually worked in his favor for the screen version.
I love the Deluxe edition of the soundtrack to Todd much more than Les Miserables.
I think Sacha Baron Cohen should have got Javiert’s role instead.
And someone else entirely for Val Jean.
 Maybe Gerard Butler has learned some new things since Phantom and could have done Val Jean better

Yeah like get his voice dubbed by a friend with a voice like Ramin Karimloo! I also like Depp in ‘Sweeney Todd’ and have got the complete score to the film version (labelled ‘approved mixes’) that was posted within a thread on here a while back. It really trumps the Deluxe Edition by the way!
Watch the 1952 version before seeing the musical, or the 1935 version.
Or I can send you the 1982 5 part CBS Radio Mystery Theater, don’t let a musical version be ur first experience of this great Victor Hugo novel.
Who may this friend be who has a voice like Ramin Karimloo phantomman86?
It’s hypothetical dummy!
But nothing beats the Angela Landsbury/Len Carious original.

I enjoyed the 1998 version with Liam Neeson and Geoffrey Rush.
It finally got a Blu-Ray release just this month.

I think I grabbed that. I’ll have to double check.
So I wouldn’t listen to this album expecting anything that could match up with any cast recording from the stage production. That said, it still may work very well within the film.

Well said. Have you heard the 2001 adaptation of Les Mis by Focus on the Family’s Radio Theater? It is absolutely fantastic. I’ll definitely check into those ones you mentioned.
I see her as indispensable to anyone who has ever seen, heard or there are posted "Les Miserables" in any format or version.
Enjoy your reading!
