Ripping DS Music?

I was wondering; is there any method of ripping music from DS games? I’d really enjoy getting the Drawn To Life soundtrack, but I need to know how to go about getting it first.

Well, the obvious way is to take your DS and a double male audio cable and record through the input on your PC. The other way that is much more professional is to load the SDAT from the ROM up in VGMTrans and find the data that encompasses the sound effects and then with a hex editor turn the bytes into all FF’s. Put the file back in the ROM and record. This allows you to have pure music with no sound effects to bother you while recording. I reccomend Nitro Explorer. It works good for these kinds of things (And proven to work better then NDSTool because it keeps ID’s the way they should, try repackaging NSMB with NDSTool and watch as the game refuses to load.).

Someone attempted to do a gamerip of Sonic Rush Adventure with the second method you mentioned. It didn’t work out very well. (I should know, I talked to THAT individual about that at Gamingforce.)

However, if you were to direct me to resources for the second method, I would try it out just for fun. (Who knows? I may actually like it.)

The DS doesn’t even have a USB port. (That port at the back that you plug your adapter in to? Do NOT force a normal Type-B USB cable into that!- you not only damage the DS, but it also wouldn’t fit).

That’s odd, and I will certainly give it a go later with Sonic Rush Adventure and see how it works out. The program I use and most people should use (Until NDSTool fixes the way it repackages NDS files; basically, try repacking NSMB with NDSTool and be amazed at how it doesn’t keep ID’s correctly and does not allow the ROM to start) is NitroExplorer (Requires VB Runtimes). Just extract the SDAT and get VGMTrans and do the method I mentioned above. I have opened Sonic Rush Adventure before in Nitro and I did notice that the music and sound effects for that game are strung about everywhere in different SDATs.

As far as recording with a USB cable, if it is something like a male audio connector to USB cable, I could possibly see it working, but I don’t know if they make those (You may have to solder one yourself).
