Favorite Soundtracks?

What’s your all-time favorite movie soundtrack? I know, there are so many great soundtracks out there, but there must’ve been one that absolutely captured your attention? Personally, I can’t stop listening to the "Vamp" soundtrack Jonathan Elias did back in 1986 for the movie of the same name. It’s so 80’s meets Tangerine Dreams, but it was composed for a cheesy 80’s vampire flick (which I treasure), so it does have that distinct 80’s sound to it. Josie and the Pussycats is a masterwork. In my Top 10 albums, period. Not just soundtracks. Adam Duritz from Counting Crows and Adam Schlessinger from Fountains of Wayne co-wrote some of the songs, Babyface produced it, Kay Hanley of Letters to Cleo fame does Josie’s voice. It just has songs across the gamut of emotions, and two hilarious songs from Du Jour :p Oh and the girls (Rachael, Rosario, and Tara) actually sing back-up 😀

The score of Matrix: Revolutions is another personal fav, as well as the High Fidelity soundtrack.

I only have soundtracks for Kill Bill Vols. 1 and 2, Titanic and The Virgin Suicides and they are all really good. Evita is my favourite though <3

There are many soundtracks which I really like (from composers such as John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Mikl�s R�zsa, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, John Debney, Hans Zimmer etc.), but if I’m forced to choose between them, two entries stand out: Lord of the Rings trilogy by Howard Shore (I really consider the scores for the three films as a one massive score for obvious reasons) and The Land Before Time by James Horner.

LotR Trilogy (particularly as presented in its original form as intended by Shore in the Complete Recordings sets) is truly an outstanding work with many memorable themes and motifs (many of which get more and more development as the score and films progress until they mature to their full form), various instruments as well as different musical styles for different cultures, and that’s only scratching the surface of this enormous project.

The Land Before Time is the best score James Horner has composed so far and even though it is reminiscent of certain classic pieces, it’s still a very beautiful and haunting score with many themes and a very memorable song. The score offers both choral majesty as well as some tragic and scary moments and yet keeps some optimism throughout with antics that help to balance the darker aspects of the story. All in all it’s a solid score which keeps the pace up, never loses its focus and is truly a heartbreaking piece of art.

I adore the Shrek soundtracks.

I couldn’t agree with you more. I have the soundtrack, and I play it quite often. I think my favorite pieces are: "Whispering Winds" and "the Great Migration".

Another favorite of mine is James Horner’s "An American Tail".

I really like The Lord of the Rings soundtrack. Epic songs.

Though I don’t really listen to a lot of OSTs, I do love the Blade Runner soundtrack by Vangelis. I really like Rutger Hauer’s monologue on the track ‘Tears In Rain’, even though a lot of his acting since Blade Runner doesn’t leave much to be admired, but that monologue is very, very good. Actually, that’s not fair, I should say a lot of his roles don’t leave much to be admired.

Probably the Mirrormask and the Piano. And a lot of stuff by Vangelis.

Philip Glass’ work with Illusionist. And ‘Analyse’ is perfect to cap off the movie (whoops, not supposed to discuss Mr. Yorke for some absurd reason)

I have really been enjoying the Hours soundtrack lately. Loved the film for years but never really took much notice to the music.
