But I can’t tell if anyone actually runs this place or not.
When your site is down for a couple months…and people give you 2500 dollars of their money to get it back up….
Would it not make sense to TELL THEM why their money hasn’t done anything?
Everything isdown. Every single mp3 is down. None of them are there. I fully understand that this is because simply not everything has been transferred yet or whatever- but the problem is that no indication is given anywhere about this!
Is there any notice as to why? No. On the main page? No. On the download pages? No. In the forum? No. Not a single indication as to what is going on or if anything is being done. It’s been a couple days now. No update. Absolutely NO information. Now, after getting 2500 dollars from donations, I’m just saying it’s common courtesy to keep your donators informed on what is happening. A simple "MP3s are STILL DOWN! Give it <estimate> days and they should be back up! The problem is <x>!" would do.
There is a topic asking about it, but nobody official came along. Not a single person in power had an answer. One rude person came along to say "CANT YOU READ?! THE FILES ARE STILL DOWN THAT IS WHY THEY ARE DOWN!" as if this was stated somewhere within view, possibly white knighting whoever apparently runs this place(goes by the name of Sarah?)
On top of this, I made an account, to ask some questions. This was mostly because THE CONTACT INFORMATION WAS WRONG. The email address listed under "Contact Us" does not work. Good job on that one. Trying to avoid criticism? Or just an accident? Either way, throw it into the "evidence that this place is stagnant" pile. That isn’t even considering that the help link to the forums…leads to a nonexistent topic.
So I make an account. I can log in. My account is there. But I’m told I need to activate it. I already did. I go to click the activation link again.
"Error: Account does not exist."
Um, what? I’m logged in. Clearly it exists. The email says for help…ask the forums.
The forums. Which require an account. Which I can not activate. Absolutely wonderful catch-22 you’ve got set up there. I tried 3 times. With 3 email adresses. 3 accounts. None worked, until this one.
I’m sorry, but this is constructive criticism. I think I have every right to be upset. Mostly with a complete lack of information from the owner. Really, is updating the main page to inform people what’s going on that hard? That’s just lazy to not do anything. Then there’s the lack of forum input…
If a major life crisis happened the day this place came ‘back up'(i say that in quotes because it clearly is not back up), then I apologize. But otherwise…I think I am in the right when I say these things, and when I say that the care for the community and the people using the site is absolutely deplorable.
I’m sure many will agree…unless there are a lot of white knights here.
-An incredibly Disgruntled user, simply upset with shoddy customer service and an extreme lack of information.
PS: I apologize a few times in here, but I do feel I am in the right. I apologize because I love the place, and I’d hate to(assuming it works that way) get banned for being upset with it. I really hope it isn’t a big deal that I say these things, but I really do think they should be considered. I also tried to be civil. Believe me, I could do worse than sarcasm. >__> And the more I sit here hoping someone will reply before I go to sleep, the more I feel this was too harsh. But really. People donate their money to let this place live. The very least they deserve is an update on how it’s going.
i recommend saving the masterball for mewtwo.
i hope this helps
You have to hold them down at that exact moment or it won’t work. Good luck!!
Sarah is probably doing more than you know. Just because it’s not written as an update on the main site, doesn’t mean something isn’t being fixed.
Plus, this isn’t a full time job. This isn’t her responsibility. This is something she does on her own time and pays for out of pocket. She has no obligation to give serve you an endless supply of free crap. Neither do the admins, neither do the mods, neither do the people who upload music on the forums.
You’d do well to remember that.
And to check the donation thread where Sarah gives a couple updates as well.
Websites are not required to have customer service of any kind. All of the people who work on this site (Whether it’s Sarah who owns it, Ketzu who helps with site/forum problems, the admins/mods, or the uploaders) do it on their own time with no compensation just because they are decent folks who like the community (honestly, the community is pretty split in two between the music forums and the rest of the forums).
I can understand wanting updates about donations, but like I said, Sarah has given them. These things don’t happen overnight, and just because your buddy runs pokemanscity.com doesn’t mean that his experience in getting updates and paying for hosting is anything near the same experience as running a site that gets a ridiculous amount of page views and downloads (not to mention complaints) a day.
As much grief as people from GH give Sarah and as much time and money as she puts in to get nothing but headaches in return, I sorta wish she’d just delete the site and leave the forums (sans the download links) so it’d be like they used to be.
There’s also a thread about what to do when your account won’t activate. You don’t need a working account to read threads.
And remember your bit about it being okay if there was a major life crisis? There was one. It’s been mentioned in other threads, so good job picking up on that and taking 5 minutes to find your "lack of information".
Enough white knighting for you? Suck my dick. The people who defend Sarah are generally the people who have been friends with her for years (online and off), or the mods, admins, and uploaders who have to deal with the same leechers and $5 donators bitching. It’s not "white knighting", it’s explaining the fundamental concept of "THIS IS A WEBSITE THAT IS RUN BY VOLUNTEERS AND HAS ABSOLUTELY NO OBLIGATION TO KEEP YOU SUPPLIED WITH FREE MUSIC."
o snap
It is not that hard to update the main page.
When a site is down, it should not appear as if it isn’t. That’s all I’m syaing. People help pay for this place, and they deserve to know what is wrong without having to wander around looking for it. Put it on the main page. WHere people get to the site. Where people see it.
It’s terribly unprofessional to not put updates on the actual site.
And I know it isnt her JOB and it isnt REQUIRED to update people, but it is her site and it is common courtesy to give people information!
I am sorry if you think it’s not her job to tell epople what is going on, but I have to say if she herself agrees that she doesnt have to tell people what is up and if tossing it into the forum threads is good enough….that’s not a very good way of running a site, and I agree that everything should go but the downloads. At least then, when there was a problem, there’d be something said about it.
I agree that people who have donated deserve to know how they’ve effectively contributed. But despite the lack of a formal update, the mere fact that the site is there is evidence that there is effort towards its restoration. Considering Sarah has recently lost someone dear to her, she has recently been a victim of identity theft and has had to endure the consequential financial issues, she, herself has admitted she has been going threw a lot and hasn’t been online much, and she has the task of transitioning hundreds of gigs (if not TBs) of data to a new server under a new host (done her own spare time), try to really appreciate the fact that is still willing to sacrifice so much to keep GH and FFS going for the community (and I’ll further reiterate, something she has absolutely no obligation to do) and try not to complain so much about what is the proper way to run a website.
Believe me, you’re not nearly the only person who has come here and found broken links, not close.
Also, believe me, Sarah hasn’t forgotten about this place, either.
Since the donations began, the site has been usable for a long time. That money has already gone to paying for the continued existence of the site. It’s completely irrelevant to the current downtime. So then GH goes down for a while—the web site which is still free to use, regardless of whether you yourself chose to put money towards its future existence—and you throw a conniption. Wow. Very adult of you. I’m sure you’re not being selfish at all.
Maybe it wouldn’t be hard to put a status update on the main page. Maybe you think it would be nice if Sarah did so. Maybe you could suggest it without acting like an entitled prick.

Man all you pokefags are the same. Nobody gives a crap about your level 9999 pikachu ffs >:
Comes out March 22nd in Region1~
I’ve heard of it~
when’s it out in au?
it is a ghost-site
the time I do have free to spend on gh I could’ve spent in two ways: 1) trying to get it to work 2) trying to tell people why it’s not working, then trying to get it to work.
I opted for the former because I didn’t figure it’d take this long, although obviously it wouldn’t be fixed overnight– there’s over a terabyte of music up there.
if people want to donate enough to have this be my fulltime job, I’ll treat it like one. the reality is the donations and ads more often than not don’t cover expenses, much less cover enough to allow me to work on it fulltime. until then I’ll treat it as something I do in my spare time.
I actually do like criticism, because I do want to improve on the site. tk more or less said what I felt like saying in a more elegant fashion tho: constructive criticism is fine, acting like an entitled prick about said criticism really isn’t.
like others have said here, there’s also a lot going on that I’ve had to deal with; ongoing health problems, identity theft and the massive financial crisis that followed it, moving, working, sorting out server security & dns issues, going to college full time, and the death of an immediate family member.
if you don’t understand why after all that someone doesn’t have the time to work on something they started as a hobby, I’m at a loss as far as what you want me to tell you.
I’ve heard of it~
Don’t get all Chewey on me, bro~ 😛
I NEED AT LEAST SEVEN TERABYTES >:

made it the usual instead
As I said it did seem a bit harsh. I was mostly venting about all the stupid troubles i had even making an account(incorrect contact info, non-functioning activation links), on top of just a general lack of information.
I do not know where all those personal problems are mentioned, but I’m sorry I did not see them. My bad.
And I had no way of knowing the main page is having trouble- usually the main page of a site is the most important, and is always updated. I simply found it strange it was left alone.
It was harsh, and I’m sorry. I should have said "Why hasn’t there been any straight-out up-front update on waht is going on? Perhaps a topic saying specifically "The mp3s are not working due to transferring of files!", rather than the information being shoved deep inside other topics?".
And, after all this, I still do find it ridiculous that no such thing exists. Im sorry for everything else, but nothing bluntly right out there(due to an inability to put it right out there on the main site) is just simply inexusable.
You had the time to respond to this…so obviously you have the time to write up a short explanation. People should be informed, is all, without having to search through existing 12 page topics.
I didn’t mean to be a dick about it, honestly. I just made the correlation between "Site just got tons of money" and "site hasn’t made a single update about what is happening" and wanted to complain, to bring up how ridiculous that is.
So basically: Sorry, but really, put some sort of concise update sticky topic somewhere. I kNOW I would not be the only one to appreciate it.
that hard duo
hes always rock hard

I guess you are impersonating me with that line.
So, let’s see… 50 people ask the same. What would you do? Don’t tell me you’d still be patient after the 20th 1-post-people who joined the forum the very month they post in asked why the files are gone.
Which is what happens all the time.
And, as many people said before me – you’re getting stuff for free, as donations are completely voluntarily. Don’t complain about the quality and service of something you don’t pay for.
oh shi-

And you know what would prevent such posts…?
Up front and concise updates. Just sayin’.
Up front and concise updates. Just sayin’.
That is NOT true. This is SO not true. People don’t SEE Stickies. They don’t SEE other threads.
Take just a RECENT example:
This thread was made yesterday:
http://67.19.221.50:81/~forums/showthread.php?t=63766
Although we have THIS thread:
http://67.19.221.50:81/~forums/showthread.php?t=62641
which clearly says "READ THIS before posting about downloads not working!"
People don’t see stuff like that. They see what they want. Maybe YOU would’ve seen it, but 50 other people wouldn’t. That 1 out of 50 sees it, but that makes no real difference, because that one guy is just so little of an amount, and the time for making and stickying that thread was wasted anyway because it doesn’t make a difference when those 49 others don’t read/see it. I’d prefer the time to be going into Sarah working on the site instead of typing up a thread with information the majority already knows (the regulars reading other threads) and only a fraction of users who don’t know it will read (that 1 out of 50 posting and bitching).
But seriously. This site runs on Sarah Money and donations. Do you expect Sarah to post an announcement every time she does something to the site?
"OH LOOK GUYS! I ADDED ON ANOTHER SONG!"
End of my post.
I love this
Here is the middle
And here is the end
