The game is VERY hard to find, and I regretfully traded my copy off (for FFT, which just so happened to be re-released the next year as a PSX Greatest Hits…)…
I belive it also was #23 on Entertainment Weekly’s top 100 Video Games of all time O_o
Glad I was able to steal "my" copy from my cousin!
Incidentally this is the only Castlevania to date that really had an impact on me. I think Aria of Sorrow for GBA is supposed to be similar, but I haven’t really been checking the news on that.
Great game, very very fun, one of my all time favorites. Unfortunately it gets pretty easy playing through it a second time. While the game does have rpg elements I’d still call it a side scrolling action game. I’m not sure how hard it is to find anymore but I know my friend picked up a copy last year for under 20 dollars since its a greatest hit now.
It’s a greatest hit now O_o?
Wow, I’m gonna go hunt a copy down O_o, I haven’t played the game in a few years O_o
And as for it being an RPG, the only thing I saw that was non-RPG’ish about it, was the battle system, sure it’s side to side, but the battle system doesn’t make it an RPG, there are many RPG’s without the traditional battle systems… This battle system just happened to have that of a side-to-side action game… But it did implement RPG factors into the battle system (HP, MP, Level, stats, equipment, spells, experience, etc…)
Heh, now THIS is a great game, yes? I’ve played almost all of the Castlevania series (Well, the ones released here in Australia and whatever ones I’ve got on Emulator), and there’s one thing which draws me back to it. What is that one thing? Simple. The music. I’ve never played any other game with the same atmospheric music as this one. I have to thank my friend Enkidoh for getting me the OST as a Christmas present. The music is beautiful, haunting and moody.
The game itself, is pure gold (At least that’s what I think). If you wish to consider yourself a Castlevania Connoiseur, you have to at the very least played this game, if not own it.
Go! Go to your nearest computer game store, and demand a copy! Go now!
I heard that the one for Dreamcast was going to rock… but it got canceled when a bug in the game kinda… exploded the Dreamcast when you did an Item Crush. o_O
I think Konami nailed everything with this game..RPG elements as well as old school side scrolling…and the relics (items that enabled you to transform, jump higher, etc.) were great. So many secrets in this game…it’s funny, because to fully complete the game (getting all 200.2 percent), you have to activate the Sword Brothers Glitch…heh. If anyone wants to know how to do that, you can always ask me (or just as easily go to Gamefaqs.com…)
And yes..finally, I’d like to say…
