How big of a role does the Square Characters play?
Personally I’m not a very big fan of Kingdom Hearts, I tried it and got tired of it within a few days. It felt to much like a ‘fan service’ type of game to me and I couldn’t really get into it. But that’s just what I thought.
As I said, read a few reviews to develop a sort of ‘feel’ for what to expect and make your desicion from there.
I believe it is worth a rental to check it out yourself, that’s the best unbiased advice I can give :p
kh1 atlantica was great music. if you played the japanese version of kh2 i think its better there because if you dont understand it then you cant here crap made by disney. But if you dont have jap. verison download the soundtrack to get it. The soundtrack is in jap.
i got the english version…
it was my first time i was embarrassed to play a game on ps2…
I didn’t like going to Atlantica in KHII. I tried to avoid playing that level when my roommate was in the room at the time.
Meh, a simplistic analysis. Many of the environments are pure Disney, but some are purely original. The plot, on the other hand is many cases very Disney, but there’s a large original plot to go along with it. As for relation to Final Fantasy — definitely not like any Final Fantasy in terms of general gameplay, etc., though overall feel I suppose is probably closest to XII in that you face enemies generally as you roam about without going into a separate sequence. Things like healing items and stuff generally retain the same sorts of names as in FF, but overall combat feel is much different, particularly as you generally only directly control and command one character — Sora. Expect a much a greater freedom of movement and complexity of combat is ramped up even more in KHII with new features such as Reaction Commands and Drive Forms.
Idiot.
Also, what’s with everyone liking KH2 better than KH1? Please tell me you’re all joking.
KH2 kinda disappointed me in some ways. It was a fun ride, but it lacked some things.
EDIT: Oh shit, I’m replying to a necro’ed thread?
KH1 all the way!
KH2 did have the potential to be good. It had some cool places and I might say I liked it’s story better, but systematically it was VERY limited, and that disappointed me.
And, Ngrplz, there are only 2 FMVs in the game. The beginning and the ending. The rest are cutscenes.
Really? I found one better, perhaps because it was fresh. Like when KH first came out, it was revolutionary. I have never seen two separate worlds integrate so perfectly. Honestly I never though Disney and Square-Enix could have co-existed in a game. Don’t get me wrong KH2 is incredibly enjoyable, and it’s buttloads of fun (especially the kill 1000 hollows by yourself part, the Riku fights, fighting Sephiroth, and hell I have never had so much fun fighting a final boss like KH2.) I was also disappointed by how they weakened Sephiroth, I mean in KH1 if you beat Sephiroth you were incredibly high leveled and fast, in KH2 you just have to be quick on your toes.
Though, remember how in KH1 there were plenty of different things to do in each world? Like, each time you got a trinity power or whatever? Also, unreachable chests in areas without certain magic or trinities? It was a lot more fun that way with constantly ongoing sidequests that give you reasons to almost return everywhere. Also a new magic or a new power made a difference.
It was cool how in KH1 even some of the MAGICs had alternative functions for hidden secrets to come back to later.
In KH2, you just go to each place twice and you’re done! No hidden secrets or anything! Also the magics in that game were rubbish and had NO alternative function at all besides Atlantica. Unlike KH2, KH1 felt more like a real RPG in terms of hidden secrets and revisiting several times to clear everything. They could have put a hidden secret in the Beast’s Castle, the Land of Dragons, Halloween Town… but no, they’re all feeling just like Story-fillers. You go there and complete part 1 and part 2 of the story whenever they become available, and that’s it! Even Disney Castle/Timeless River could have had something, both places were great. All they have was the storyline boss battle.
In KH1 almost every place has a hidden secret, I actually can’t think of one that doesn’t. KH2 has only one or two areas with such a thing, but they’re weak.
Also, I don’t know about you but I found the colloseum tournaments more enjoyable in KH1 than in KH2. Found them to be weaker in 2.
Either way, I love the series and hope Birth By Sleep will be awesome :D!
KH one seemed like the better game probably because the storyline remained simple and didn’t have so many strange characters added in at seemingly the last second. Of course, I might have understood more had I played KH: Chain of Memories which I’m told bridged the gap, but I still think that was a weak decision to port a direct sequel to a comparatively low-powered system. Besides that the gameplay was much improved and the battles pretty epic.
(Hey IXD rider what did u put in for your ULR,I keep getting errors!)
In certain types of mechanics, KHII was definitely better. For one thing, there was no more Heartless camera and I cannot overemphasize how glad I was to see the back of that. I also feel that Shimomura really went all out to provide a soundtrack for this game that exceeded the already great effort for the first one. And there were definitely some damn tough battles in this one and some very interesting fights at times too. I also liked the upgrades to the Journal system which, from what I understand, were a carryover from the Final Mix version of the original game.
Totally agree regarding the Coliseum system being much more enjoyable in the original one. The Pooh sidequest was also a lot better in the first one too. I also didn’t like that access to the Glide ability was totally optional in the second one and relied mainly on luck to gain (Sora Final Form) if you didn’t know how to get it from a walkthrough or guide. And yeah, there was, of course, the freshness factor of the first one.
I THOUGHT THE GAME 1 WAS MEDIOCRE
AND THEN GAME 2 DIDN’T DESERVE BUYING
(P.S.: Entertaining as always, Garamond.)
I just checked them and all of them work…
But like I said before, High Jump, Glide, etc. had NO benefit like they did in the first one. Even once you have them, it’s just "okay, let’s move on". There wasn’t any going to new heights to get certain treasure by retracing your steps. No hidden secrets to get with those abilities, they’re just good to use to your advantage in combat and that’s it. Might as well not even make them "shared abilities".
Same with all the magic. I mean, in KH1 you have the white mushroom game, the flowers you need to zap in wonderland once you get Thunder later, the chests you lower with Gravity, the pillars in the colloseum with the Blizzara/Blizzaga effect… among other stuff. That whole thing was fun to explore, while you get NOTHING like that in KH2 except for Atlantica. Seriously, they have all these well-designed worlds, and no place for such a thing at all? The worlds in the game felt more episodic than explorable. If even that, look what a small role Disney Castle had and how quickly you were done with it. That’s IT! You do the story, open chests, and bam, nothing left to do there. How depressing is that.
When I played KH2 I felt more like I was taking a tour than exploring on my own considering how insanely limited the stuff to do in each place is, with the exception of Hollow Bastion.
I think the creators assumed that the mini-games were to make up for it, seeing as KH1 didn’t have many mini-games except Deep Jungle anf KH2 had a whole lot of mini-games.
Well, they didn’t make up for it.
Though I did like the KH2 soundtrack better. Hopefully the next main KH game (KH3) will have more of a KH1 feel, though.
Looks like I have some research to do.
Looks like I have some research to do.
Well, unless they cancel it or go bankrupt or something, they obviously are eventually planning to make a next game continuing Sora’s story considering where these guys left off.
I haven’t been keeping up with KH news but I think it’s on PSP.
The DS will have a KH game too.
I lol’d
That’s pretty dumb imo. A Toy Stories world would rock, and would actually make sense to fight. I mean who fights cars… other than Street Fighters.

Could not agree more with you.I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was in the second that wasn’t as good as the first. Eveytime I was about to leave a world I just thought "this is the last time I will ever see these characters again. They will contribute nothing more to the story." Made it feel like episodes to a programme that could be watched in any order rather than a continuous plot.
Kingdom Hearts: 382/2 will be released onto the Nintendo DS sometime this fall (can’t remember if it’s Japan or US release though). The game focuses on Roxas while he was in the Organization. It supports 4 player co-op but as far as I know, only Roxas and Axel are playable characters.
There is also Kingdom Hearts: Coded for mobile phones, but I don’t know much about it and don’t really care because of there being no talk about it being released outside of Japan.
Fo’ shizzle.
That and I’d rather not have Larry the Cable Guy infecting good games.
Now I know they’re short and old, but to those of you who’d wanna see KH worlds of those, I strongly reccomend those two games, a fun ride they are.
Of course it could be just me and nostalgia, but those games will always have a place on my shelf.
GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
no u
When posting to nsb don’t use any words with more than one syllable he will have trouble understanding.
Yeah, because bashing on swami is just the uber-cool thing to do. You could at least use decent grammar when insulting another’s intelligence, mang.
Edit to be on-topic:
I’m actually playing through KH1 right now. I’m in Hollow Bastion, and the game is actually better than I remember it. I found Atlantica to be absurdly boring, though. Overall, I’m really liking it. It’s nice that I can actually find a good deal (if not all) of the "secret" stuff without absolutely needing a guide, like many games Squeenix has been releasing since then (ahem, FFXII). I haven’t yet played KH2, but I’m looking forward to getting into it once I finish KH1.

Hmm, based on what I’ve seen, it seems like whenever Harkus tries to join a bitchfight or flamewar or zingfest or whatever they call them nowadays, he seems to fuck himself over as well as whatever side he attempted to take, regardless of how intelligent their retorts were.
Harkus, For your own sake (and everyone else’s), I’d suggest lurking more or sticking to your own business. However, if you’re THAT desperate to embarrass NSB or make a mockery of him, my best advice for you would be to take his side next time. I’m sure you’ll do a fine job accomplishing that.
On topic…
Well, in KH2 you have a display in the "Journal" statistics telling you if you have anything left to acquire, so a guide is almost useless in KH2, while in KH1 you have nothing that tells you if you missed a secret or whatever.
KH2’s worlds mostly seemed to have only… two total functions which were storyline related already, and then you were done. KH3 better not be like that.
lol

I’ve only played about a half hour of KH2 on a friend’s file. He handed me the controller and said, "here, fight Sephy!" so I don’t know anything about that. In KH1, the journal helps you with the Dalmatians and the trinities. The synth shop gives you lists of what you need for the various items, and you’re told when there are new tournaments in the Coliseum. In KH1, it’s just about being thorough, which I really like, especially after dealing with FFXII’s "you must have a guide to get this" bullshit, like the Zodiac Spear and the Lv.99 Red Chocobo.
Holy shit, Zak. It’s not particularly hard to do, but you just owned Harkus. And it was fucking hilarious.
That was my reaction, too. Good shit, Zak.

Hah, I agree, but once you get into KH2 you’ll see what I mean.
The Dalmatians sidequest and Trinity searches are good, because, they cover the whole array of worlds. In KH2 there isn’t really a sidequest like that, and what I meant about the journal… well, basically it always tells you how many treasures you have left in a certain place, and how many are accessible… and that’s about it. And, there isn’t the whole "Wow, I gained this power and this magic, so now I can go back to these worlds and access these things." No "Secret treasures you can only Glide to" or things that you needed to zap when you didn’t have Thunder, or any things like that. It’s all very limited and a controlled environment. Almost every world needs to be visited only twice at a minimum in order to get everything, after that the only purpose the worlds serve in going back is completing mini-games or collecting synthesis loot.
Definitely check it out though.

This place gives me epic lulz when people post so seriously. You just made my day.
Anyway on topic I say that KH is definately worth buying, it is good fun and had a good story.
Definitely check it out though.
I will, once I finish KH1. I need to finish synthesizing the Ultima Weapon, pick up a couple weapons for Goofy and Donald, kill Phantom, Kurt Zisa, and Sephy, and then I’m pretty much done.
shutup harkus
Coming from somebody less useful than Harkus?
ITP: Harkus attempts to not show how butt-hurt he got.
Only part I really like are the boss fights.
Apparently, not getting banned for being a cunt.
Yes you are right, in fact I cried when I read the post.
In all seriousness though KH is awesome
